Shell Commands to Access the Special Folders in Windows 7/Vista/XP
The shell: command can be used to open a special folder directly from the Start, Search menu or from the Run dialog. “Browse for More Pictures…” Link in the Vista User Accounts Applet Does Not Work
When you open Control Panel – User Accounts – Change your picture, and click the Browse for more pictures… option, nothing may happen. The Common File Dialog is supposed to open when you click the option.

“Open File Location” Entry Missing When Right-Clicking a Shortcut in Windows 7 and Windows Vista
When you right-click on a shortcut (.lnk file), the option Open file location may be missing from the right-click menu. This happens if the IsShortcut registry value for .lnk files (Shortcuts) is deleted in an attempt to hide the overlay icon in shortcuts. To resolve the problem, re-create the IsShortcut registry value.
Method 1
Download and apply the .lnk file association fix from the following link:

Method 2
Click Start, type regedit.exe and press {ENTER}
Navigate to the following key:
In the right-pane, create a String value (REG_SZ) named IsShortcut
Exit the Registry Editor, and restart Windows.

Fix Send Page by E-Mail Option Grayed Out in Internet Explorer
When you try to send a webpage or link by email via the File – Send menu in Internet Explorer, the options Page by E-Mail… and Link by E-Mail… may be dimmed/grayed out. This happens if a default mail client is not correctly set. Use the instructions below to reset the default mail client in Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Follow these steps to resolve the problem.
Windows Vista & Windows 7
1. Click Start, select Default Programs
2. Click Set program access and computer defaults
3. Click Custom, and select your mail client (for example, Microsoft Outlook)
(If User Account Control is enabled, you’ll be prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation after following the step 2 above. When the prompt appears, type your password, or click Continue.)

4. Click OK
Note: Windows 7 doesn’t include a mail client by default. You need to install a mail client such as Windows Live Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook (not free) separately.
Windows XP
1. Click Start, click Set Program Access and Defaults
2. Click Custom
3. Select your mail client
4. Click OK
Favorite Links Area in Windows Vista Explorer Is Empty
When you open Windows Explorer, the Favorite Links area may be completely empty even though the %userprofile%\Links folder contains the default shortcuts. Where %userprofile% represents your user profile folder, which is typically C:\Users\{username}. (more…)
