Send To Mail Recipient missing or does not work

Some users mentioned that the “Mail Recipient” option went missing from the “Send to” menu after installing Mozilla Thunderbird. This article tells you how to fix the “Mail Recipient” feature.

Note: The Send to → Mail Recipient features require installing a classic mail client like Office Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird.

Resolution

Step 1: Copy the “Mail Recipient” file from the default user folder

This issue can happen if the Mail Recipient (Mail Recipient.MAPIMail) file is deleted from the SendTo folder of your user profile. A copy of the file is present in each user profile and also in the Default user profile. Follow the method below to restore the file and the Mail Recipient entry to the Send To menu.

Please open the following folder.

C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

(You may copy the above path and paste it into the File Explorer address bar to open the folder.)

Copy the “Mail Recipient” file to your desktop.

Now, open the following folder:

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

Move the “Mail Recipient” file from the desktop to the above folder. Overwrite the destination file if prompted.

Step 2: Fix the .MAPIMail file association

Launch Regedit.exe.

Go to the following key if it exists:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.MAPIMail\UserChoice

Right-click “UserChoice” and choose Delete.

Exit Regedit.exe.

Open an admin Command Prompt and run this command:

assoc .mapimail=CLSID\{9E56BE60-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}

Press Enter.

Step 3: Set Mozilla Thunderbird as the default mail client (optional)

If you want to set Mozilla Thunderbird as the default mailer for the Send to → Mail recipient feature, open an admin Command Prompt and run this command:

reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail" /ve /d "Mozilla Thunderbird" /f

That should resolve the Send to → Mail Recipient functionality.
