DiskPart Error: “The specified service does not exist as an installed service”

When you run DiskPart, the following error may appear:

DiskPart has encountered an error: The specified service does not exist as an installed service. See the System Event Log for more information.

Cause

The above error occurs if the “Virtual Disk” service (VDS) has been deleted from the system.

Resolution

To restore the Virtual Disk service, download VDS.zip and run the enclosed registry file (applies to Windows 10 and 11). Click Yes to confirm.

This restores the missing Virtual Disk service.

Restart Windows for the service registration to take effect.
