I had no idea that all this existed
In Microsoft Windows 10 File Explorer when a filename has the focus (is selected) F2 opens that file name for editing* except for the filename’s extension.
To open all of the file name for editing use F2 + Ctrl + A.
* This is useful for more than renaming a file. Edit mode allows copying all or pieces of a file name for use elsewhere. Sometimes I open a file name for editing, then copy all or part of the file name, press ESC to close the filename leaving it in its previous state (in case I chose cut instead of copy), then paste that piece of the file name into a document or another file’s name.
