Microsoft has made the Windows 11 24H2 ISO available and is also rolling out 24H2 to users via Windows Update. If you’ve installed 24H2 and don’t like its performance, you can revert to 23H2 (or the previous build) using the recovery feature in Settings.
You can always roll back a feature update within ten days. After ten days, the windows.old folder, which contains the previous Windows files, will be automatically cleared.
Go Back to Windows 11 23H2 from 24H2
To revert to the previous Windows version (e.g., 23H2) within ten days of upgrading to 24H2, follow these steps:
Open Settings → System → Recovery.
Click “Go back” under “Recovery options.”
Click Next.
Click “No, thanks” when prompted to check for updates.
Click Next.
Click Next.
Click Go back to earlier build.
If everything goes well, your system will revert to the previously installed OS version after one or more reboots. To verify everything ran correctly, check your OS version by running winver.exe.
Editor’s note
Windows 11 23H2 will be supported till November 11, 2025. After this date, the version will reach the end of servicing. So, consider upgrading to 24H2 or higher before November 11, 2025.
