User file folder icon appears very small in Windows 11

When you access the “Change desktop icons” dialog and add the “User’s Files” icon to the desktop in Windows 11, the “User’s Files” icon may appear very small.

"User's Files" icon appears very small

However, if you create a shortcut to the User’s Files folder, it appears correctly with the proper icon size, like all the other icons on the desktop.

Resetting or changing the User’s file folder icon to a custom icon (via Desktop Icon Settings dialog, launched by running the command, control.exe desk.cpl,,0) doesn’t help.

Cause

The above issue can occur due to icon cache or thumbnail cache corruption.

Resolution

To fix the User’s Files icon, clear the icon and thumbnail caches.

To clear the icon cache, please use one of the methods in this article. Method 1 or 3 is preferred because it automates the task.

If the above doesn’t help, clear the thumbnail cache in addition.

To clear the thumbnail cache, you may use Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe). For more information, see the following article:

That should fix the User’s Files icon. Please see the following screenshot.
