How to Prevent "Shortcut" Suffix from Being Added to New Shortcuts in Windows Vista
Summary
This article describes how to remove the "Shortcut" suffix that is added to new shortcuts in Windows Vista.
Instructions
1. Click Start, type regedit.exe and press ENTER
2. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows\ CurrentVersion \ Explorer
3. Double-click the value named Link and set its Value data to 00 00 00 00
4. Exit the Registry Editor
5. Logoff and login back for the changes to take effect.
Note: To undo the above setting, set the value data for Link to 1e 00 00 00

Mine is set 1c 00 00 00 as default.
