Symptom

When you log on to your user account, a Windows Explorer window may open that displays the contents of the C:\Program Files\Dell folder. The startup log may display the following information:

Under : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run

Startup item Command
type32 "C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliType Pro\type32.exe"
IgfxTray C:\Windows\System32\igfxtray.exe
NvCplDaemon RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
dla C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe
gcasServ "C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasServ.exe"
Dell QuickSet C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe
CTHelper CTHELPER.EXE
Apoint C:\Program Files\Apoint\Apoint.exe

Under : HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run

Startup item Command
Creative Detector C:\Program  Files\Creative\MediaSource\Detector\CTDetect.exe /R
Apoint C:\Program Files\Apoint\Apoint.exe
DellSupport C:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exe /startup
Norton SystemWorks "C:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\cfgwiz.exe" /GUID
{05858CFD-5CC4-4ceb-AAAF-CF00BF39736A} /MODE CfgWiz

Resolution

This problem can happen if a startup registry entry pointing to a Dell application is formatted incorrectly. For instance, in the above log, there are two references to Dell software (marked in red.) Follow these steps to fix the problem:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run

C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe

becomes:

"C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe"

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion\ Run

C:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exe /startup

becomes

"C:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exe" /startup
