Nothing happens when you click on a mailto: link in a webpage, when using Internet Explorer 6

Symptom

When you click on a mailto: link in Internet Explorer 6, the mail window may not launch (or nothing happens when you click) even though the default mail client is correctly set.

Resolution

Click Start, Run and type mailto:[email protected] See if the mail window launches. If this works properly, but the problem is seen only while clicking the mailto: URLs from a website, try the steps below (for Internet Explorer 6 only):

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll

Press ENTER. Then execute the following command:

regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll
