Any notification shown on your taskbar will be added to the Action Center. The unread (new) notifications count is also displayed on the Action Center notification area icon.<\/p>\n<p>The Action Center may accumulate too many messages over time. To clear them simply click on the <strong>Clear all notifications<\/strong> link at the bottom of the Action Center slide-out pane. This article tells you how to clear specific notifications using a shortcut.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Clear notifications in Action Center<\/h2>\n<p>In the Action Center, you can clear individual notifications by hovering the mouse over the notification and clicking the <strong>Clear<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9723\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/clear-action-center-shortcut-2.png\" alt=\"clear all notifications shortcut action center\" width=\"701\" height=\"214\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Action Centre notifications are grouped under different categories based- eg., application-based, Windows Security alerts, Mail, Dell SupportAssist, etc. There may be multiple notifications under a particular head. To close all notifications from a <strong>particular category<\/strong> &#8212; eg., SupportAssist, hover the mouse pointer above the category label and click the <strong>Clear<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9722\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/clear-action-center-shortcut.png\" alt=\"clear all notifications shortcut action center\" width=\"701\" height=\"414\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To clear all notifications, click on the <strong>Clear all notifications<\/strong> link (<em>not visible in the above screenshot<\/em>) at the bottom of the Action Center.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Tip:<\/strong> You can hide the new notifications count by right-clicking on the Action Center and selecting <strong>Don&#8217;t show number of new notifications<\/strong>. That way, it can be less obtrusive and at the same time, the notifications can be read whenever you need by opening the Action Center.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Clear all notifications using Keyboard or desktop shortcut<\/h2>\n<p>To clear the Action Center notifications using the keyboard, here is the key sequence needed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><kbd><strong>WinKey<\/strong><\/kbd> + <kbd><strong>A<\/strong><\/kbd> (to open Action Center)<\/li>\n<li><kbd><strong>Shift<\/strong><\/kbd> + <kbd><strong>Tab<\/strong><\/kbd> + <kbd><strong>Tab<\/strong><\/kbd> (to set focus on &#8220;clear all&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li><kbd><strong>Space<\/strong><\/kbd> (to press &#8220;Clear all&#8221; link)<\/li>\n<li><kbd><strong>Esc<\/strong><\/kbd> (to dismiss Action Center pane)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The above keystrokes are impractical for manual usage, but they can be automated using scripting or automation tools like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/tag\/nircmd\/\">NirCmd<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/start-snipping-tool-capture-mode-default\/\">AutoHotkey<\/a> easily!<\/p>\n<h3>Using NirCmd<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nirsoft.net\/utils\/nircmd.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\">NirCmd<\/a> from NirSoft and copy <code>NirCmd.exe<\/code> to your Windows folder.<\/li>\n<li>Copy the following commands, open Notepad, and paste it:\n<pre>nircmd sendkeypress lwin+a\r\nnircmd cmdwait 500 sendkeypress leftshift+tab leftshift+tab spc esc<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Save the file as <code>clear_notifications.bat<\/code> and run the file.<\/li>\n<li>If required, create a shortcut to the batch file, and assign a keyboard hotkey &#8212; e.g., <kbd>Ctrl<\/kbd> + <kbd>Alt<\/kbd> + <kbd>C<\/kbd> to launch it quickly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Using AutoHotkey<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Download and install the AutoHotkey utility.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click the desktop \u2192 <strong>New<\/strong> \u2192 <strong>AutoHotkey Script<\/strong>. This creates a new AutoHotkey script on the desktop.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click on the newly created .ahk file and click Edit Script<\/li>\n<li>Replace its contents with the following code, and save the file:\n<pre>Send #a\r\nSleep, 500\r\nif WinActive(\"ahk_exe Shellexperiencehost.exe\")\r\n{\r\nSend +{Tab}+{Tab} {Space} {Esc}\r\n}<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9794\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/clear-action-notifications-ahk.png\" alt=\"clear all notifications shortcut action center - autohotkey\" width=\"700\" height=\"168\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Double-click the .ahk script file to clear the Action Center notifications automatically.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"qt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-9189\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/information-icon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"48\" height=\"48\" \/>If the Action Center is already empty (no notifications), the <strong>Clear all notifications<\/strong> link will not show up. In that case, running the NirCmd batch file or AutoHotkey script will toggle the <strong>Expand<\/strong> \/ <strong>Collapse<\/strong> setting as it will be the only available link\/option in an empty Action Center window.
