{"id":9611,"date":"2019-06-04T06:39:56","date_gmt":"2019-06-04T01:09:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/198.58.113.91\/blog\/?p=9611"},"modified":"2023-07-31T19:02:52","modified_gmt":"2023-07-31T13:32:52","slug":"tally-error-404-unable-to-connect-to-tally-gateway-server","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/tally-error-404-unable-to-connect-to-tally-gateway-server\/","title":{"rendered":"Fix: Tally Error 404 &#8211; Unable to connect to the Tally Gateway Server"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you start the <strong>Tally<\/strong> accounting software, you may encounter error 404 <strong>Unable to connect to the configured Tally Gateway Server on Port 9999<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9616\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/tally-error-404.png\" alt=\"tally error 404 unable to connect to tally gateway server\" width=\"696\" height=\"622\" \/><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Connections Error<\/strong> (404) screen cited the following possible reasons(s) for failure:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Problem with the Server name\/IP address or Port of your Tally Gateway Server.<\/li>\n<li>Windows Firewall is blocking Tally.ERP, Tally Gateway Server, or both.<\/li>\n<li>Problem with the network connection on your computer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It also suggests the following possible solution(s):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Check if the Tally Gateway Server name\/IP address specified in the Configure Existing License screen is correct.<\/li>\n<li>Check if the Tally Gateway Server is installed on the computer specified in the configuration.<\/li>\n<li>Allow Tally.ERP 9 and Tally Gateway Server through Windows Firewall. Click <a href=\"https:\/\/help.tallysolutions.com\/article\/Tally.ERP9\/Installation\/Adding_Program_files_to_Exception_list_of_Windows_7_Firewall.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\">here<\/a> to know how to allow any application through the Windows Firewall.<\/li>\n<li>Check if your computer is connected to the network.<\/li>\n<li>Check if Tally Gateway Server is receiving requests from the configured port.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And the following options were shown below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reconfigure your existing license<\/li>\n<li>Search for Tally Gateway Server(s)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Selecting one of the above options to reconfigure the Gateway throws <strong>Error 208<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9615\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/tally-error-208.png\" alt=\"tally error 404 unable to connect to tally gateway server\" width=\"693\" height=\"344\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Windows Firewall<\/h3>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been using the Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control (WFC) software for the last 2 months, and <code>tally.exe<\/code> inbound TCP\/UDP connections were already whitelisted for both Public and Private networks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9612\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/tally-firewall-allow.png\" alt=\"tally error 404 unable to connect to tally gateway server\" width=\"681\" height=\"134\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above inbound rules are also reflected in the Windows Firewall (with Advanced Security) <code>wf.msc<\/code> Control Panel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9617\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/tally-firewall-allow-wf-advanced.png\" alt=\"tally error 404 unable to connect to tally gateway server\" width=\"700\" height=\"141\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve followed everything the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.tallysolutions.com\/article\/Tally.ERP9\/Licensing\/Error_Code_404.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\">Tally Official KB<\/a> said and it didn&#8217;t resolve the problem for me.<\/p>\n<h3>Tally Gateway Server Service<\/h3>\n<p>The problem turned out to be the <strong>Tally Gateway Server<\/strong> service. The event viewer showed that the service had failed to start, and the following errors were logged under Event IDs 7000 and 7009:<\/p>\n<div class=\"err\">The Tally Gateway Server 10.0 service failed to start due to the following error:<br \/>\nThe service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.<\/div>\n<div class=\"err\">A timeout was reached (60000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Tally Gateway Server 10.0 service to connect.<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9613\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/tally-gateway-server-event-7000-7009.png\" alt=\"tally error 404 unable to connect to tally gateway server\" width=\"548\" height=\"260\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All I had to do was launch the Services MMC (<code>services.msc<\/code>) and start the Tally Gateway Server 10.0 service.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9614\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/tally-gateway-server-start.png\" alt=\"tally error 404 unable to connect to tally gateway server\" width=\"653\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That fixed the Tally Gateway Server connection issue.<\/p>\n<h3>Tally error 407 after changing the computer name<\/h3>\n<p>You may get the error 407 after changing the computer name in Windows. Launching Tally would throw the error code <strong>407<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Unable to connect to the configured Tally Gateway Server on Port 9999.\r\n\r\nThe Tally Gateway Server name\/IP (old_computer_name) specified in the Configure Existing License screen, does not exist in your network.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19311\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/tally-407-error-1.png\" alt=\"tally gateway error 407\" width=\"701\" height=\"385\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All you need to do is click Reconfigure your existing license, and then type your (new) computer name in the next dialog.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19310\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/tally-407-error-2.png\" alt=\"tally gateway error 407\" width=\"701\" height=\"297\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Save your settings.\u00a0Tally would have saved the computer (or gateway server) name into the <code>Tally.ini<\/code> file.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19312\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/tally-407-error-3.png\" alt=\"tally gateway error 407\" width=\"701\" height=\"286\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Close and reopen Tally.
