This can be done by setting the taskbar thumbnail preview hover delay to a large value (say 10000 milliseconds or more), so that the preview is not immediately generated when you hover over a taskbar icon. Well. Then the article title should have really been &#8220;How To Delay Taskbar Thumbnail Preview in Windows&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><i>I heard about this registry value via article <a href=\"http:\/\/wingeek.com\/articles\/39445\/adjust-taskbar-preview-hover-delay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow noreferrer\">Adjust Taskbar Preview Hover Delay<\/a> at WinGeek.com (Credits to <b>Steve Sinchak<\/b>) and experimented the registry value by inputting a large decimal value to prevent the immediate display of thumbnails on the Taskbar.<\/i><\/p>\n<h2>Disable Taskbar Thumbnail Preview in Windows 10<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and navigate to the following location:\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Advanced<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named <code><b>ExtendedUIHoverTime<\/b><\/code><\/li>\n<li>Double-click <b>ExtendedUIHoverTime<\/b> and select <b>Decimal<\/b><\/li>\n<li>To increase the hover delay to 5 seconds, type <b>5000<\/b>. Type <b>10000<\/b> for 10 seconds and so forth\u2026<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10051\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/taskbar-thumbnail-preview-3.png\" alt=\"disable taskbar thumbnail hover preview in windows - extendeduihovertime\" width=\"699\" height=\"305\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<li>Logoff and login back, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/how-to-terminate-and-restart-explorerexe-process-cleanly-in-windows-7-and-vista\/\">restart the Shell (&#8220;Exit Explorer&#8221; method)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Here is how it looks after applying the <b>ExtendedUIHoverTime<\/b> setting. Hovering the mouse pointer over the taskbar icon shows the tooltip instead of the thumbnail. Taskbar Thumbnail wouldn&#8217;t appear until the specified time (10000ms) has elapsed. By default when you open five instances of a program (e.g. Notepad), five thumbnails are displayed one for each instance.. and so forth up based on your screen resolution limit. If the limit is exceeded, it stacks the items on top of each other.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, if <code>NumThumbnails<\/code> value is set to 10 (decimal), thumbnail previews are shown only if you have <em>less than or equal to<\/em> 10 program windows. Opening more than 10 instances of the same program will cause the items to be stacked.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/w10\/taskband\/thumb-1.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"179\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s set NumThumbnails to <code>2<\/code>.
