When you double-click an image file (e.g., .jpg, .png, .gif files) with the Photos app set as the default program on your Windows 10 computer, error Package could not be registered<\/strong> may pop up.<\/p>\n

Fix: Photos error “Package could not be registered”<\/h2>\n

Step 1: Reset or Repair Photos app<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Click Start, Settings, Apps, Apps & Features.<\/li>\n
  2. Select Microsoft Photos<\/strong> and click on the Advanced options<\/strong> link.

  3. Click Terminate<\/strong> to close the app if it’s running in the foreground or background.
    \n\"Package<\/li>\n
  4. Click on the Repair<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n
  5. See if you’re able to open image files in Photos app by double-clicking.<\/li>\n
  6. If the issue is unresolved, switch to the Settings window.<\/li>\n
  7. Click Terminate<\/strong> to close the app.<\/li>\n
  8. Click Reset<\/strong> to reset Microsoft Photos configuration to default. Your personal files and image sources collection shouldn’t be affected.<\/li>\n
  9. Open the Photos app reconfigure the settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Step 2: Uninstall & Reinstall the Photos app<\/h3>\n

    Start PowerShell\u00a0as administrator.<\/p>\n

    Run the following command in the PowerShell console:<\/p>\n

    Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos | Remove-AppxPackage<\/pre>\n
    This uninstalls the Photos app.<\/p>\n
    To reinstall Photos<\/strong>, run the following command:<\/p>\n
    Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.Windows.Photos | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register \"$($_.InstallLocation)\\AppXManifest.xml\"}<\/pre>\n
