This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.<\/pre>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28760\" style=\"border: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/windows-installer-service-error-w11.png\" alt=\"windows installer service error windows 11\" width=\"352\" height=\"218\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28759\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/msiserver-error-service.png\" alt=\"windows installer service error\" width=\"558\" height=\"148\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you attempt to start the Windows Installer service by running the <code>net start msiserver<\/code> command from Admin Command Prompt, one of the following errors may appear:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">System error 1058 has occurred.\r\n\r\nThe service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.\r\n<\/pre>\n<pre class=\"err\">The service name is invalid.\r\n\r\nMore help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185.\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>The above errors may occur even though Windows is already in Normal mode. Instructions in this article apply to all versions of Windows, including Windows 11.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<h3>Start the Windows Installer service<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch Command Prompt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/run-program-as-trustedinstaller-locked-registry-keys-files\/\">as Trusted Installer<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>In the Trusted Installer Command Prompt, type <code>Services.msc<\/code> and press <kbd>Enter<\/kbd>.<\/li>\n<li>In the Services console, double-click <code>Windows Installer<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Set the Startup type of Windows Installer to <strong>Manual<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click <code>Start<\/code> to start the service. Note down the error message, if any.<\/li>\n<li>Click OK.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the above steps do not help or if the <b>Windows Installer<\/b> service is <strong>missing<\/strong> in the Services applet, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<h3>Fix the Windows Installer Service Registry Keys<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/misc\/msiserver.zip\">msiserver.zip<\/a> (for Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows 7.)<\/li>\n<li>Unzip and extract the appropriate registry file to the Desktop.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click on the registry file and choose Merge.<\/li>\n<li>Click Yes when asked for confirmation.<\/li>\n<li>Restart Windows.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Error 2 when starting the Windows Installer service?<\/h3>\n<p>Some users may get the following error when starting the Windows Installer service.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Windows couldn't start the Windows Installer service on Local Computer.\r\n\r\nError 2: The system cannot find the file specified.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/msiserver-error-2.png\" alt=\"msiserver service start error 2\" width=\"580\" height=\"277\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35038\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To resolve the error, follow the steps below:<\/p>\n<p>Make sure the system has internet connectivity.
