What if you don&#8217;t use a desktop shortcut to open Command Prompt, and rather run <i>cmd.exe<\/i> directly? Here is a registry edit which enables Quick Edit option by default for Command Prompt. This works regardless of the methods you use to open the Command Prompt window.<\/p>\n<p><em>This article was written for older Windows versions. Quick Edit is enabled by default in latest versions of Windows, such as Windows 10.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Enable Quick Edit by default in Command Prompt<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Open a Command Prompt window (<code>cmd.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Bring up the menu by clicking the top left corner<\/li>\n<li>Click <b>Defaults<\/b><\/li>\n<li>In the Options tab, place a checkmark near <b>Quick Edit Mode<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Click OK.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Using the Registry Editor<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch <b>regedit.exe<\/b> and navigate to:\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Console<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Double-click <b>QuickEdit<\/b> and set its data to <b>1<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>With Quick Edit enabled, you can copy the output from the Command Prompt window using the mouse.
