Narrator is a text-to-speech utility for users who are blind or have impaired vision. Narrator reads what is displayed on your screen: the contents of the active window, menu options, or the text you have typed. If you don&#8217;t plan to use Narrator, you can turn it off using the following steps:<\/p>\n<p>Press Win-Key + U keys. In the <b>Utility Manager<\/b> window that opens, select Narrator&#8230; and click the <b>Stop<\/b> button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/archived\/narrator1.png\" width=\"374\" height=\"319\"><\/p>\n<p>Also, uncheck the following options:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Start automatically when I log in<\/li>\n<li>Start automatically when Utility Manager starts<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Click OK.<\/p>\n<p>In Windows 10, the UI would be different. Press WinKey + U to open Narrator settings page, and turn off &#8220;Narrator&#8221; toggle button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/speech-recog-2.png\" alt=\"checkbox text on off narrator\" width=\"701\" height=\"327\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4092\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also, open the classic Control Panel &#8211; Speech Recognition page.
