On those builds, the only way was to use PowerShell to remove or reinstall the apps.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Later Windows 10 builds facilitated the reset or uninstallation of apps via Apps &amp; Features in Settings. However, for some preinstalled (inbox) apps like Photos, the <strong>Uninstall<\/strong> option is disabled. Only the <strong>Repair<\/strong> and <strong>Reset<\/strong> buttons are enabled.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8680\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/store-app-uninstaller-1.png\" alt=\"windows 10 store apps uninstall\" width=\"699\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This post tells you how to uninstall a preinstalled app using different methods in Windows 10 and 11.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/error-0x80073cfa-uninstall-app-removal-failed\/\">Fix for Error 0x80073CFA when Uninstalling an App in Windows 10<\/a><\/div>\n<h3>Uninstall Preinstalled Apps Using PowerShell<\/h3>\n<p>To remove a preinstalled app or any Store app for that matter using PowerShell, you&#8217;d use the <code>Remove-AppxPackage<\/code> command. For example, we saw the two PowerShell commands <code>Get-AppxPackage<\/code> and <code>Remove-AppxPackage<\/code> in the article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/reinstall-photos-app-windows-10\/\">How to Reinstall the Photos App<\/a>. Here is another example:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Uninstall the Twitter app<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Twitter app is listed when you run the <code>Get-AppxPackage<\/code> command:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8676\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/store-app-uninstall-powershell-2.png\" alt=\"windows 10 store apps uninstall using PowerShell\" width=\"700\" height=\"454\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To uninstall it, run:<\/p>\n<pre>Get-AppxPackage *twitter* | Remove-AppxPackage<\/pre>\n<p>To uninstall the Twitter app for all users, include the <code>-allusers<\/code> switch as below:<\/p>\n<pre>Get-AppxPackage -allusers *twitter* | Remove-AppxPackage<\/pre>\n<p>Note that PowerShell needs to be run as administrator in order to use the <code>-allusers<\/code> switch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Uninstall Notepad (Store app)<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.WindowsNotepad* | Remove-AppxPackage<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Uninstall Paint 3D<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.MSPaint | Remove-AppxPackage<\/pre>\n<p>Likewise, you can uninstall any app by getting the app name by running the <code>Get-AppxPackage<\/code> command without any parameters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reinstall Paint 3D<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.MSPaint | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register \"$($_.InstallLocation)\\AppXManifest.xml\"}<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Uninstall Sticky Notes<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes | Remove-AppxPackage<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Reinstall Sticky Notes<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register \"$($_.InstallLocation)\\AppXManifest.xml\"}<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Uninstall multiple apps at the same time<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To uninstall multiple apps at a time via PowerShell grid view, use this command-line:<\/p>\n<pre>Get-AppxPackage | Out-GridView -Passthru | Remove-AppXPackage<\/pre>\n<p>You&#8217;ll see the PowerShell grid view control showing all the apps. Select one or multiple apps from the list and click OK. All the selected apps will be uninstalled automatically. You don&#8217;t have to type their names.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9841\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/powershell-uninstall-apps-gridview-passthru.png\" alt=\"uninstall built-in apps powershell\" width=\"701\" height=\"380\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Uninstall Preinstalled Apps Using Store Apps Uninstaller<\/h3>\n<p>For users who don&#8217;t prefer running PowerShell commands, there is a tool called Store Apps Uninstaller from Microsoft&#8217;s ScriptCenter portal.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.softpedia.com\/get\/Tweak\/Uninstallers\/Windows-10-Store-Apps-Uninstaller.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Store Apps Uninstaller<\/a> (<code>Remove-StoreApps_Win32.exe<\/code> and <code>Remove-StoreApps_X64.exe<\/code>) is a WinForms tool that lets you remove any preinstalled app or 3rd party Store apps quickly, without you needing to mess around with PowerShell manually.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8678\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/store-app-uninstaller-2.png\" alt=\"windows 10 store apps uninstaller\" width=\"623\" height=\"445\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Get Store Apps<\/strong> button to populate the list box. Then, select the app from the list and click <strong>Remove Selected Apps<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it! The selected app is gone.
