If a user clicks on the &#8220;Managed by your organization&#8221; link, they are directed to <code>chrome:\/\/management\/<\/code> which contains details about <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/chromebook\/answer\/1331549\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chrome Browser management<\/a> on Chrome browser, or the <code>edge:\/\/management<\/code> page on Microsoft Edge.<\/p>\n<p>This message is also seen on the Chrome\/Microsoft Edge (chromium) Settings page.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23669\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/edge-managed-policies-1.png\" alt=\"edge managed by organization\" width=\"681\" height=\"275\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Clicking on the &#8220;Managed by your organization&#8221; link opens the <code>edge:\/\/management<\/code> page, which displays the following message:<\/p>\n<pre>Microsoft Edge is managed by your organization\n\nIf you use Microsoft Edge at school or work, it might be managed, or set up and maintained, by your organization. Your organization can set up or restrict certain features, install and block extensions, monitor activity, and control how you use it.\n\nIf Microsoft Edge is managed, you can view the policies that are set by your organization on the edge:\/\/policy page.<\/pre>\n<p>This post tells you how to remove the <em><strong>Managed by your organization<\/strong><\/em> notice and also explains how to remove the Microsoft Edge or Chrome policies that cause the notice to be shown.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>In Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome (v73 and higher), when one or more policies are set in Chrome Browser, some users will see a new item on the More menu that indicates that Chrome is being managed.\u00a0To know the Policies applied to your system, browse to:<\/p>\n<pre>chrome:\/\/policy\n\nedge:\/\/policy<\/pre>\n<p>This page shows the list of Edge\/Chrome Policies applied and the &#8220;Source&#8221; for each policy. Policy &#8220;Source&#8221; can be one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Platform policies are pushed to users with Windows Group Policy, Managed Preferences on Mac, or another out-of-band management system for Windows, Mac, or Linux. Platform policies are listed even if the user isn&#8217;t signed in to a managed account.<\/li>\n<li>Cloud policies are set using the Admin console and apply to users who sign in to a managed Google Account.<\/li>\n<li>Enterprise default policies are set by Chrome developers for enterprise customers and have a different default value than non-enterprise customers. Admins can override default values by setting the corresponding cloud policies in the Admin console.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8508\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/chrome-policy-lastpass.png\" alt=\"chrome policies page &quot;managed by your organization&quot;\" width=\"1046\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/chrome-policy-lastpass.png 1046w, https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/chrome-policy-lastpass-768x114.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1046px) 100vw, 1046px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>LastPass and some other Chrome extensions may be taking advantage of the <code>ExtensionInstallForcelist<\/code> or <code>ExtensionInstallSources<\/code> policy settings in Edge or Chrome to force-install browser extensions.<\/p>\n<h4>Webroot browser extensions<\/h4>\n<p>Other users have reported that the Webroot anti-virus software has added a browser extension named &#8220;Web Threat Shield&#8221; (whose extension ID is <code>kjeghcllfecehndceplomkocgfbklffd<\/code> for Chrome and <code>fmkaflbamgddpjacdmjlkhbnpnlemaea<\/code> for Edge, using a registry-based policy.<\/p>\n<pre>Chrome Web Store:  https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/web-threat-shield\/<strong>kjeghcllfecehndceplomkocgfbklffd\n<\/strong>Edge add-ons Page: https:\/\/microsoftedge.microsoft.com\/addons\/detail\/web-threat-shield\/<strong>fmkaflbamgddpjacdmjlkhbnpnlemaea\n<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p>In the following screenshot, you can see that the extension ID <code>fmkaflbamgddpjacdmjlkhbnpnlemaea<\/code> which corresponds to the Edge add-on. You can also see the relevant registry-based policy name (&#8220;<code>ExtensionInstallForceList<\/code>&#8220;) on that page.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23672\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/webroot-browser-extensions-2.jpg\" alt=\"edge managed by organization webroot\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/webroot-browser-extensions-2.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/webroot-browser-extensions-2-768x447.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/webroot-browser-extensions-2-1536x894.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <code>edge:\/\/management<\/code> page shows the name of the force-installed extension.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23671\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/webroot-browser-extensions-3.jpg\" alt=\"edge managed by organization webroot\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/webroot-browser-extensions-3.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/webroot-browser-extensions-3-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6419 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/hand.png\" alt=\"hand point icon\" width=\"49\" height=\"27\" \/>In the Webroot settings dialog, unchecking <strong>Activate browser extensions<\/strong> and clicking <strong>Save<\/strong> would remove the force-installed Webroot extension from your browser. This also removes the &#8220;Managed by your administrator&#8221; message if no other policies are currently set.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23670\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/webroot-browser-extensions.jpg\" alt=\"edge managed by organization webroot\" width=\"803\" height=\"565\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/webroot-browser-extensions.jpg 803w, https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/webroot-browser-extensions-768x540.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 803px) 100vw, 803px\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>However, it&#8217;s not always a browser extension causing this. To date, there are more than 300 registry-based policies applicable for Microsoft Edge (chromium). You may check out the official <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/deployedge\/microsoft-edge-policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Microsoft Edge Browser Policy documentation<\/a> at the Microsoft site.<\/p>\n<h2>[Solution] Remove &#8220;Managed by your administrator&#8221; in Edge or Chrome<\/h2>\n<h3>Instructions for Google Chrome<\/h3>\n<p>If you&#8217;re convinced that policy was set by your company, then you can simply hide the &#8220;Managed by your administrator&#8221; notice using the Chrome flags page.<\/p>\n<h4>Option 1: Hide the &#8220;Managed by your administrator&#8221; notification in Chrome<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Open Google Chrome.<\/li>\n<li>Browse the following page:\n<pre>chrome:\/\/flags\/#show-managed-ui<\/pre>\n<p>This flag lets you enable or disable showing enterprise users a &#8216;Managed by your organization&#8217; message in the app menu and on some <code>chrome:\/\/<\/code> pages.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8507\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/chrome-show-managed-ui-disable.png\" alt=\"chrome policy flags disable message\" width=\"749\" height=\"113\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Set it to <code>Disabled<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Option 2: Remove Chrome Policies (via the registry) on a Standalone Computer<\/h4>\n<p>If your system is not connected to a corporate network and is a standalone system, you may remove all those Chrome Policies using the registry.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Start the Registry Editor (<code>regedit.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Go to the following location:\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Google\\Chrome<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Export the branch by saving it to a REG file.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click <code>Chrome<\/code> and choose Delete to delete the branch.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat the same under the following branch:\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Google\\Chrome<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Option 3: Remove Chrome\/Edge Policies on Windows Pro and higher<\/h4>\n<p>The following method will remove all the policies applied to the system (<strong>not just<\/strong> Chrome or Edge policies).<\/p>\n<p>Open an admin Command Prompt window and run these commands:<\/p>\n<pre>RD \/S \/Q \"%WinDir%\\System32\\GroupPolicyUsers\"\n\nRD \/S \/Q \"%WinDir%\\System32\\GroupPolicy\"\n\ngpupdate \/force\n<\/pre>\n<p>The above commands remove the following folders where the policy configuration is stored:<\/p>\n<pre>%WINDIR%\\System32\\GroupPolicy\n%WINDIR%\\System32\\GroupPolicyUsers<\/pre>\n<p>After clearing those folders, carry out the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Install and run the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/chrome\/cleanup-tool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chrome Cleanup Tool<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Scan your computer for unwanted software using recommended removal software:\n<ul>\n<li>Windows: Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner, HitmanPro.<\/li>\n<li>Mac: Malwarebytes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Uninstall unfamiliar or suspicious extensions.<\/li>\n<li>Uninstall suspicious programs from your computer:<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/completely-reset-google-chrome-defaults\/\">Reset your browser settings<\/a> if necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Instructions for Microsoft Edge (Chromium)<\/h3>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t used the Group Policy Editor to configure Edge policies earlier, then you can remove the Microsoft Edge registry-based Policies using the following steps:<\/p>\n<h4>Remove Edge Policies (via the registry) on a standalone computer<\/h4>\n<p>If your system is not connected to a corporate network and is a standalone system, you may remove all those Microsoft Edge Policies using the registry.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Start the Registry Editor (<code>regedit.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Go to the following location:\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Edge<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Export the branch by saving it to a REG file.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click <code>Edge<\/code> and choose Delete to delete the branch.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat the same if the branch named <code>Edge<\/code> exists in the following paths:\n<pre><span class=\"\">HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Edge\nHKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\WOW6432Node\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Edge\nHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\WOW6432Node\\Policies\\Microsoft\\<\/span>Edge<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Note that if you or your system administrator has used the Group Policy Editor to configure Microsoft Edge policies, removing the registry entries may not help. You&#8217;ll need to reverse the changes made in the Group Policy Editor. In the Group Policy Editor, the Microsoft Edge policies are located here:<\/p>\n<pre>Computer Configuration \u2192 Administrative Templates \u2192 Windows Configuration \u2192 Microsoft Edge\n\nUser Configuration \u2192 Administrative Templates \u2192 Windows Configuration \u2192 Microsoft Edge<\/pre>\n<p>To remove <strong>all<\/strong> the policies applied to the system (not just Edge or Chrome policies), run these commands from an admin Command Prompt:<\/p>\n<pre>RD \/S \/Q \"%WinDir%\\System32\\GroupPolicyUsers\"\n\nRD \/S \/Q \"%WinDir%\\System32\\GroupPolicy\"\n\ngpupdate \/force\n<\/pre>\n<p>This removes Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome policies and the message <strong>Managed by your organization<\/strong> on your device.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, some users see the message &#8220;Managed by your organization&#8221; when they click the &#8220;More&#8221; menu.
