You may consider lowering the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/change-disk-space-allotted-system-restore-windows\/\">disk space allotted<\/a> to System Restore or delete the System Restore snapshots which include previous versions of files. Upgrading the hard disk is the ultimate solution though.<\/p>\n<h2>Delete All System Restore Points in Windows<\/h2>\n<h3>1) Using GUI<\/h3>\n<p>Cleaning up the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/create-restore-protection-point-rollback-windows\/\">System Protection<\/a> points may sometimes be necessary during malware removal or when the hard disk is low on space.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press <kbd>Win<\/kbd>\u00a0+ <kbd>R<\/kbd> to bring up the Run dialog.<\/li>\n<li>Type <code><strong>sysdm.cpl<\/strong><\/code> and click OK.<\/li>\n<li>Select the System Protection tab.<\/li>\n<li>In the System Protection options, select a drive letter and click Configure.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9101\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/system-restore-space-allot-1.png\" alt=\"what is system volume information folder, and can i delete it\" width=\"412\" height=\"468\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Click <b>Delete<\/b>, and click Continue when prompted.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9100\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/system-restore-space-allot-2.png\" alt=\"what is system volume information folder, and can i delete it\" width=\"407\" height=\"466\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Click OK, OK.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Deleting all but the most recent Restore point using Disk Cleanup<\/h3>\n<p>To delete all the restore points except the most recent one, use Disk Cleanup:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Start Disk Cleanup (<code>cleanmgr.exe<\/code>)<\/li>\n<li>Select the drive letter from the list and click OK.<\/li>\n<li>Click <b>Clean up system files. <\/b>This restarts Disk Cleanup to run in elevated mode.<\/li>\n<li>Select the drive letter from the list and click OK<\/li>\n<li>Click the <b>More Options<\/b> tab.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9099\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/cleanmgr-clear-restore-points-old.png\" alt=\"what is system volume information folder, and can i delete it\" width=\"375\" height=\"454\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Click the <b>Clean up<\/b>\u00a0button under System Restore and Shadow Copies.<\/li>\n<li>Click OK.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This deletes all restore points except the most recent one, and thus potentially reducing the size of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/what-is-system-volume-information-can-i-delete\/\">System Volume Information<\/a> folder.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Using Vssadmin<\/h3>\n<p>Windows allows you to delete all restore points\u00a0programmatically or using the <code>Vssadmin.exe<\/code> console tool from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/open-elevated-command-prompt-windows\/\">admin Command Prompt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To delete <strong>all<\/strong> the restore points on all the volumes, run this command-line:<\/p>\n<pre>Vssadmin Delete Shadows \/all<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24201\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/vssadmin-delete-all.png\" alt=\"vssadmin delete all restore points\" width=\"699\" height=\"224\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To delete only the <strong>oldest<\/strong> restore point on the <code>C:\\<\/code> drive, run:<\/p>\n<pre>Vssadmin Delete Shadows \/For=C: \/Oldest<\/pre>\n<p>If no shadow copies exist, you&#8217;ll see the message &#8220;<strong><em>No items found that satisfy the query.<\/em><\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Here are the arguments that can be used with &#8220;<code>Vssadmin.exe delete shadow<\/code>&#8221; command:<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\/for=&lt;ForVolumeSpec&gt;<\/td>\n<td>Specifies the volume for which the shadow copy is to be deleted.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\/oldest<\/td>\n<td>Deletes only the oldest shadow copy.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\/all<\/td>\n<td>Deletes all of the shadow copies for the specified volume.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\/shadow=&lt;ShadowID&gt;<\/td>\n<td>Deletes the shadow copy specified by <em>ShadowID<\/em>. To get the shadow copy ID, use the <strong>vssadmin list shadows<\/strong> command.
