This can be determined on a per-app basis.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Find Which Installed Apps Require .NET Framework<\/h2>\n<p>First, please run the respective apps. Then use one of the following methods to determine whether those apps require the .NET Framework to function correctly.<\/p>\n<h3>Option 1: Use PowerShell<\/h3>\n<p>For example, if the app name is AcronisVSSDoctor.exe, to verify whether it requires the .NET Framework, do the following:<\/p>\n<p>Launch the app. With the app running, open <strong>PowerShell (admin)<\/strong> and run this command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"powershell\">(Get-Process -Name \"AcronisVSSDoctor\").Modules.Filename\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>In the output, you&#8217;ll see the list of modules loaded by AcronisVSSDoctor.exe. You should be able to determine the names of the .NET modules from the output.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-80618\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/find-app-uses-dotnet-1.png\" alt=\"determine if a program uses .net framework\" width=\"750\" height=\"624\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For instance, if the following module appears in the output, it means the app uses .NET Framework 4.x runtime.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">C:\\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework64\\v4.0.30319\\clr.dll<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Option 2: Use Process Explorer<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch the program (e.g., AcronisVSSDoctor.exe)<\/li>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sysinternals\/downloads\/process-explorer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Process Explorer<\/a> from Microsoft.<\/li>\n<li>Run Process Explorer as <strong>administrator<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In Process Explorer, double-click the process named AcronisVSSDoctor.exe.<\/li>\n<li>In the process properties dialog, click on the <strong>.NET Assemblies<\/strong> tab if it&#8217;s available.\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<strong>Note:<\/strong> If the <strong>.NET Assemblies<\/strong> tab doesn&#8217;t exist for a process, that means that the app doesn&#8217;t use the .NET Framework.<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-80619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/find-app-uses-dotnet-procexp.png\" alt=\"determine if a program uses .net framework - process explorer\" width=\"620\" height=\"626\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can check the CLR version in that tab. v4.0.30319.0 indicates that the app uses the .NET Framework 4.x.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">Here&#8217;s another example.
