The white line is glaringly noticeable when the user interface is in dark mode.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-80467\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/explorer_white_line_address_bar.png\" alt=\"white line appears under the address bar in file explorer\" width=\"748\" height=\"436\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above issue occurs if the Internet Explorer&#8217;s toolbar is in unlocked mode. Although Internet Explorer has been removed from the Operating System, the Explorer shell reads the IE toolbar settings.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/old-menu-bar-in-file-explorer\/\">Old menu bar appears in File Explorer<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To remove the white line under the address bar in File Explorer, please do the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Right-click Start, and click Run.<\/li>\n<li>Type <strong>regedit.exe<\/strong> and click OK to launch the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the following branch:\n<pre class=\"registry\">HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\Toolbar<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the right pane, double-click <strong>Locked<\/strong> and set its data to <strong>1<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<li>Close and reopen a folder.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The white line should no longer appear in File Explorer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you open a folder, a white line may appear under the address bar, as shown in the image below.
