If you enable hibernation using the <strong>powercfg \/h on<\/strong> command or configure hibernation using the <strong>powercfg \/h \/type full<\/strong> command, the following error may occur:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">\r\nHibernation failed with the following error: The request is not supported.\r\n\r\nThe following items are preventing hibernation on this system.\r\n        An internal system component has disabled hibernation.\r\n                Guarded Host<\/pre>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/hibernate-disabled-guarded-host.png\" alt=\"Guarded Host is preventing hibernation on this system\" width=\"750\" height=\"281\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-80452\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/troubleshoot\/windows-server\/virtualization\/troubleshoot-guarded-hosts\" target=\"_blank\">Guarded Host<\/a> feature is required if you want to run Shielded Hyper-V VMs. If you don&#8217;t need Guarded Host, you can uninstall it using Windows Features.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch optionalfeatures.exe.<\/li>\n<li>Uncheck <strong>Guarded Host<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click OK, and restart Windows.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>See if you can enable Hibernation using the following command from admin Command Prompt:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">\r\npowercfg \/h on\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>That should restore the hibernation feature.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If the hibernate option is missing in the Shutdown flyout in the Start menu, the feature may have been turned off or disabled by an internal component.
