In an earlier article, we saw how to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/run-program-as-trustedinstaller-locked-registry-keys-files\/#advancedrun\">launch a program under the TrustedInstaller<\/a> privileges.\u00a0Let&#8217;s see step by step how to import a REG file as TrustedInstaller.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The benefit of using the TrustedInstaller privileges to modify protected registry keys is that you don&#8217;t have to modify the registry ownership and permissions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/cannot-import-reg-not-all-data-was-successfully\/\">Cannot import .REG file; Not all data was successfully written to registry<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>Import a .REG file as TrustedInstaller<\/h2>\n<p>Let&#8217;s assume the REG file you want to import is located at <strong>C:\\Fixes\\UsoSvc.reg<\/strong>. Please follow the steps to import the file.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<em>Note: Before modifying the registry, please create a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/create-restore-protection-point-rollback-windows\/\">System Restore Point<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/automatically-backup-registry-hives-windows-10\/\">backup the registry<\/a>.<\/em>\n<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Download <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nirsoft.net\/utils\/advanced_run.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advanced Run<\/a> and run it.<\/li>\n<li>Using Advanced Run, launch <strong>c:\\windows\\regedit.exe<\/strong> as TrustedInstaller.\n<div class=\"newline\"><em>Reference: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/run-program-as-trustedinstaller-locked-registry-keys-files\/#advancedrun\">How to Run a Program as TrustedInstaller<\/a>.<\/em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46172\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/advancedrun-start-regedit.png\" alt=\"advancedrun start regedit.exe\" width=\"541\" height=\"285\" \/><\/div>\n<p>This opens the Registry Editor as TrustedInstaller. You can now close Advanced Run.<\/li>\n<li>In the Registry Editor, click <strong>File<\/strong>, and click <strong>Import&#8230;<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Dismiss the following message box by clicking OK.\n<pre class=\"err\">Location is not available\r\n\r\nC:\\Windows\\system32\\config\\systemprofile\\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you\u2019re connected to the network or Internet, and then try again.
