You may also see the following message at the top of the page.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Some of these settings are managed by your organization.<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77999\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/location-settings-grayed-out.jpg\" alt=\"Location settings grayed out - some settings are managed by your organization\" width=\"664\" height=\"371\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>This is caused by some policies that are in effect.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<h3>1) Disconnect from School or Work account<\/h3>\n<p>If you are logged into a school or work account, the policies may have been pushed via Azure AD. Please disconnect from the school or work network to see if that resolves the issue.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you&#8217;re not logged on to a school or work account, skip these steps.<\/div>\n<p>To do so:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open Settings \u2192 Accounts \u2192 <strong>Access work or school<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select your work or school account if it&#8217;s listed, and select <strong>Disconnect<\/strong>.\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_78001\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-78001\" style=\"width: 444px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-78001 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/work-school-azure-ad.png\" alt=\"school or work account - Azure AD\" width=\"454\" height=\"299\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-78001\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image source: Microsoft.com<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Yes<\/strong> to confirm.\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<h4>Related Microsoft links<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/manage-user-accounts-in-windows-104dc19f-6430-4b49-6a2b-e4dbd1dcdf32\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disconnect a work or school account<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/account-billing\/join-your-work-device-to-your-work-or-school-network-ef4d6adb-5095-4e51-829e-5457430f3973\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Join your work device to your work or school network<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>2) Remove the location policies from the registry<\/h3>\n<p>One of the two registry-based policies, &#8220;DisableLocation&#8221; or &#8220;DisableLocationScripting&#8221; under the &#8220;LocationAndSensors&#8221; branch, which when enabled, grays out the setting in the Location tab. To remove those policies, please follow the steps below.<\/p>\n<p>Please create a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/create-restore-protection-point-rollback-windows\/\">System Restore Point<\/a>. Then, open the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/open-elevated-command-prompt-windows\/\">admin Command Prompt<\/a> and run these commands:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">reg delete \"HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\LocationAndSensors\" \/f\r\n\r\nreg delete \"HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\AppPrivacy\" \/f\r\n<\/pre>\n<p><em>(If you get the error &#8220;ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value.&#8221;, ignore and run the next command.)<\/em><\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3>3) Do you use SpyBot Antibeacon? Turn off location policies in SpyBot Antibeacon<\/h3>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using SpyBot AntiBeacon, unchecking the sensors settings, and rebooting might help.
