If you click the Power button, you will see the message, &#8220;<strong>There are currently no power options available<\/strong>.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/shutdown-flyout-empty.png\" alt=\"shutdown options empty - no power options available\" width=\"390\" height=\"182\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77786\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also, you cannot launch Task Manager, log off the account, or lock the workstation.<\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>This happens because LockDown Browser removes the options in the Shutdown menu, turns off Task Manager, and removes the &#8220;Change password&#8221; option in the Ctrl + Alt + Del screen. It also turns off the <strong>Lock<\/strong> workstation option in the Ctrl + Alt + Del menu.<\/p>\n<p>Uninstalling LockDown Browser may not remove those policy settings in some cases.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the issue, remove the registry-based policies after creating a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/create-restore-protection-point-rollback-windows\/\">System Restore Point<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Option 1: Using a REG file<\/h3>\n<p>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/remove_exam_browser_policies.zip\">remove_exam_browser_policies.reg<\/a> (zipped), unzip and run the enclosed REG file. Click Yes to confirm.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">The REG file has the following contents:<\/p>\n<pre>\nWindows Registry Editor Version 5.00\n\n;Restores the shutdown flyout options, Task Manager, Change Password and Lock workstation commands.\n\n[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\System]\n\"DisableTaskMgr\"=-\n\"DisableChangePassword\"=-\n\"DisableLockWorkstation\"=-\n\n[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Explorer]\n\"NoClose\"=-\n\"NoLogoff\"=-\n<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<hr>\n<h3>Option 2: Edit the registry manually<\/h3>\n<p>Launch <strong>regedit.exe<\/strong> to open the Registry Editor<\/p>\n<p>Go to the following registry branch:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Explorer<\/pre>\n<p>In the right pane, delete the following values:<\/p>\n<pre>NoClose\n\nNoLogoff<\/pre>\n<p>Then, go to the following registry branch:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\System<\/pre>\n<p>In the right pane, delete the following values:<\/p>\n<pre>DisableLockWorkstation\n\nDisableTaskMgr\n\nDisableChangePassword<\/pre>\n<p>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/p>\n<p>Log off and log back into your user account for the changes to take effect.<\/p>\n<p>Note: To log off from your account, you can run the <strong>shutdown \/L<\/strong> command from the Run dialog. To shut down Windows, run <strong>shutdown \/s \/t 0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>More Information<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The &#8220;NoClose&#8221; registry value corresponds to the &#8220;Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands&#8221; option in the local group policy editor.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;NoLogoff&#8221; corresponds to &#8220;Remove Logoff.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;DisableLockWorkstation&#8221; corresponds to &#8220;Remove Lock Computer.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;DisableTaskMgr&#8221; corresponds to &#8220;Remove Task Manager.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;DisableChangePassword&#8221; corresponds to &#8220;Remove Change Password.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After installing and uninstalling the LockDown Browser for your school or university, the shutdown options may be missing from your Start menu.
