{"id":76801,"date":"2024-10-17T10:54:59","date_gmt":"2024-10-17T05:24:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/198.58.113.91\/blog\/?p=76801"},"modified":"2024-10-17T11:03:06","modified_gmt":"2024-10-17T05:33:06","slug":"get-the-latest-updates-grayed-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/get-the-latest-updates-grayed-out\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Get the latest updates as soon as they&#8217;re available&#8221; is Grayed Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you open Settings and click Windows Update in Windows 10 or 11, the &#8220;Get the latest updates as soon as they&#8217;re available&#8221; option may be grayed out.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-76802\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/get-latest-updates-dimmed.png\" alt=\"get latest updates - windows update - grayed out\" width=\"604\" height=\"565\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/get-windows-updates-as-soon-as-they-re-available-for-your-device-cad7b32b-001e-435b-9110-f18309b54168\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Get Windows updates as soon as they&#8217;re available for your device &#8211; Microsoft Support<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>This happens if some of the following Windows Update policies are configured in the system.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SetAllowOptionalContent<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">AllowOptionalContent<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">TargetReleaseVersion<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">TargetReleaseVersionInfo<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To remove the above Policies, use one of the following methods.<\/p>\n<h3>Method 1: Using Command Prompt<\/h3>\n<p>From an admin Command Prompt window, run this command:<\/p>\n<pre>reg delete \"HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\WindowsUpdate\" \/f<\/pre>\n<p>Press Enter.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Method 2: Using the Registry Editor.<\/h3>\n<p>Launch <strong>regedit.exe<\/strong> and go to the following branch:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\WindowsUpdate<\/pre>\n<p>Delete the following values (if they exist) in the right pane:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SetAllowOptionalContent<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">AllowOptionalContent<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">TargetReleaseVersion<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">TargetReleaseVersionInfo<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/p>\n<p>Restart Windows if required.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Method 3: Using the Local Group Policy Editor<\/h3>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve previously used the Local Group Policy Editor to apply the policies, you <strong>must<\/strong> use the Local Group Policy Editor to undo the policies.<\/p>\n<p>Launch <strong>gpedit.msc<\/strong> and go to the following section:<\/p>\n<p><strong>For Windows 10<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>Computer Configuration &gt; Administrative Templates &gt; Windows Components &gt; Windows Update &gt; Windows Update for Business<\/pre>\n<p><strong>For Windows 11<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>Computer Configuration &gt; Administrative Templates &gt; Windows Components &gt; Windows Update &gt; Manage updates offered from Windows Update<\/pre>\n<p>Double-click &#8220;<strong>Enable optional updates<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Set it to <strong>Enabled<\/strong>, and click Apply.<\/p>\n<p>Set it to <strong>Not configured<\/strong>, and click OK.<\/p>\n<p>Double-click &#8220;<strong>Select the target Feature Update version<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Set it to <strong>Enabled<\/strong>, and click Apply.<\/p>\n<p>Set it to <strong>Not configured<\/strong>, and click OK.<\/p>\n<p>Close the Local Group Policy Editor.<\/p>\n<p>Restart Windows if required.<\/p>\n<p>Open Windows Update in Settings.
