{"id":76488,"date":"2024-09-09T11:57:03","date_gmt":"2024-09-09T06:27:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/198.58.113.91\/blog\/?p=76488"},"modified":"2024-09-09T12:02:56","modified_gmt":"2024-09-09T06:32:56","slug":"dism-error-1243-service-not-exist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/dism-error-1243-service-not-exist\/","title":{"rendered":"DISM Error 1243 &#8211; The specified service does not exist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you use DISM to mount an image using the <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows-hardware\/manufacture\/desktop\/mount-and-modify-a-windows-image-using-dism?view=windows-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mount-Image<\/a> switch, the following error may occur:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Error: 1243\nThe specified service does not exist.\n\nThe DISM log file can be found at C:\\Windows\\Logs\\DISM\\dism.log<\/pre>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The error message will be the same if you use the <code>Mount-WindowsImage<\/code> PowerShell cmdlet to mount an image.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Mount-WindowsImage : The specified service does not exist.<\/pre>\n<p>The <strong>DISM.log<\/strong> file may contain the following entries.<\/p>\n<pre>Info                  DISM   DISM Imaging Provider: PID=11856 TID=11968 WIM image specified - CGenericImagingManager::GetImageInfoCollection\n[11856.11968] [0x800704db] OpenFilterPort:(365): The specified service does not exist.\n[11856.11968] [0x800704db] FltCommVerifyFilterPresent:(459): The specified service does not exist.\n[11856.11968] [0x800704db] WIMMountImageHandle:(1102): The specified service does not exist.\n[11856.11968] [0x80070002] GetMountedImagesKey:(149): The system cannot find the file specified.\n[11856.11968] [0x80070002] StateStoreRemoveMountedImage:(1107): The system cannot find the file specified.\n[11856.11968] [0x80070002] WIMMountImageHandle:(1344): The system cannot find the file specified.\nError                 DISM   DISM WIM Provider: PID=11856 TID=11968 \"Failed to mount the image.\" - CWimImageInfo::Mount(hr:0x800704db)<\/pre>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>DISM error <strong>1243<\/strong> (&#8220;ERROR_SERVICE_NOT_FOUND&#8221;)&#8217;s hex equivalent error code is <strong>0x800704db<\/strong>. It means &#8220;The specified service does not exist.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The above error occurs if the WIMMount driver service has been deleted.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/error-0xc1420121-feature-update\/\">Error 0xc1420121 when installing a Feature Update<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To fix the DISM Error 1243, restore the missing Wimmount service registration.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/wimmount.zip\">wimmount.reg<\/a> (zipped), unzip, and run it. Click Yes to confirm.<\/li>\n<li>Restart Windows. <strong>Note<\/strong> that shutting down the unit and powering it on will <strong>NOT<\/strong> help.
