But your user account and the SYSTEM account may not listed, which causes the problem.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75603\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/temp-folder-permissions-incorrect.png\" alt=\"temp folder permissions icacls\" width=\"729\" height=\"192\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the zip folder error, please fix the <code>%temp%<\/code> folder permissions.<\/p>\n<p>Open an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/open-elevated-command-prompt-windows\/\">admin Command Prompt<\/a> and run:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">takeown \/f \"%temp%\"\nicacls \"%temp%\" \/reset\nicacls \"%temp%\" \/inheritance:r\nicacls \"%temp%\" \/grant *S-1-5-32-544:(OI)(CI)(F)\nicacls \"%temp%\" \/grant *S-1-5-18:(OI)(CI)(F)\nicacls \"%temp%\" \/grant \"%username%\":(OI)(CI)(F)\nmd \"%temp%\\Low\"\nicacls \"%temp%\\Low\" \/setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low<\/pre>\n<p>The above should fix the permissions for the %temp% folder.<\/p>\n<p>Running <code><strong>icacls %temp%<\/strong><\/code> should show the following:<\/p>\n<pre>C:\\Users\\Username\\AppData\\Local\\Temp NT AUTHORITY\\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)(F)\nBUILTIN\\Administrators:(OI)(CI)(F)\nOPTIPLEX-7010\\Ramesh:(OI)(CI)(F)\n\nSuccessfully processed 1 files; Failed processing 0 files<\/pre>\n<div class=\"qt\">\n<p>Although the above should solve the original issue, you may also want to reset the permissions for the AppData folder:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">icacls \"%userprofile%\\AppData\" \/reset<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<p>The advanced security settings dialog for the <strong>Temp<\/strong> folder should look like below:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75604\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/temp-folder-permissions-security-dialog.png\" alt=\"temp folder permissions advanced security dialog\" width=\"767\" height=\"520\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That should resolve the error when opening files directly from .zip archives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you open a .zip file and run an enclosed file without extracting the contents to a folder, the following error may appear: Compressed (zipped) Folder Error Windows cannot complete the extraction.
