Doing so results in the message, &#8220;The app you&#8217;re trying to install isn&#8217;t a Microsoft-verified app.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75489\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/choose-apps-missing-2.png\" alt=\"&quot;choose where to get apps&quot; is missing in s-mode\" width=\"636\" height=\"570\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>The &#8220;Choose where to get apps from&#8221; option will be unavailable if your Windows installation is in S Mode. You can check that by opening the Settings App, clicking System, and selecting &#8220;Activation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If it&#8217;s in S mode, it says &#8220;Windows 11 Home in S mode.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75490\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/s-mode-windows.png\" alt=\"windows 11 s-mode - activation tab\" width=\"686\" height=\"392\" \/><\/p>\n<p>S mode is designed for security and performance, exclusively running apps from the Microsoft Store.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>You need to exit S mode to install apps from outside the Microsoft Store. Switching out of S mode is one-way. If you make the switch, you won&#8217;t be able to go back to Windows 10 in S mode. There&#8217;s no charge to switch out of S mode.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To switch out of S mode,\u00a0<a href=\"\/\/pdp\/?productid=BF712690PMLF&amp;OCID=windowssmodesupportpage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">click here\u00a0<\/a>to open the Microsoft Store to the\u00a0<b>Switch out of S mode<\/b> (or similar) page.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75492\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/s-mode-switch-out.png\" alt=\"switch out of S mode via Store\" width=\"750\" height=\"453\" \/>\n<p>Alternatively, you can run <strong>ms-windows-store:\/\/pdp\/?productid=BF712690PMLF<\/strong> from the Run dialog to open the Store app to that page.\n<\/li>\n<li>On the\u00a0<b>Switch out of S mode <\/b>page, select the\u00a0<b>Get<\/b>\u00a0button.
