Let&#8217;s see how to fix this issue.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Fix: Desktop Background Resets to &#8220;Solid color&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the issue, follow the steps below.<\/p>\n<h3>1) Delete the TranscodedWallpaper file<\/h3>\n<p>Open the following folder using File Explorer<\/p>\n<pre>%AppData%\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Themes<\/pre>\n<p>Rename or delete the file named <code><strong>TranscodedWallpaper<\/strong><\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>See if you can select the &#8220;Picture&#8221; option in Personalize &#8211; Background settings.<\/p>\n<p>If that doesn&#8217;t help, follow the next step.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>2) Turn off the syncing of Themes<\/h3>\n<p>Turn off the syncing of personalization settings, especially if your desktop background resets to &#8220;Solid color&#8221; across your Windows devices.<\/p>\n<p>Open Settings, and click Accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Click Windows Backup.<\/p>\n<p>Turn off &#8220;Personalization&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75280\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sync-off-themes.png\" alt=\"personalization settings sync options\" width=\"754\" height=\"630\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>3) Choose the default Windows theme in Settings<\/h3>\n<p>Open Settings \u2192 Personalization \u2192 Themes.<\/p>\n<p>Select the default Windows theme and see if you can change the desktop background.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75692\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/themes-list.png\" alt=\"windows 11 themes personalization\" width=\"759\" height=\"346\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>4) Check for ASUS utilities<\/h3>\n<p>Do you happen to have an ASUS system? If so, one of the ASUS utilities may be changing the background type setting.<\/p>\n<p>It could be the AURA wallpaper service from Armoury Crate, ASUS OLED Shifter, or a similar ASUS app.<\/p>\n<p>If you can&#8217;t determine which app or service is causing this, please clean-boot Windows using the MSConfig utility.
