Wireless Display is a feature-on-demand (FOD) package that adds the Connect application. This application allows other devices to wirelessly project to this computer and requires Miracast-capable hardware.<\/p>\n

When you install the Wireless Display FOD package via Optional Features in Settings, it may not install successfully. Some of the common errors you may encounter are 0x80070490 and 0x800f0950.<\/p>\n

Let’s see how to install the Wireless Display feature successfully.<\/p>\n

Resolution<\/h2>\n

To install the Wireless Display feature, follow the steps below.<\/p>\n

Step 1: Turn off the Metered option in your network connection properties<\/h3>\n

If your internet connection is set to Metered<\/a>, the FOD doesn’t install. The Optional Features page may show the error “Couldn’t Add. Try changing to a non-metered network connection.<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

The CBS log<\/a> may have the following entries.<\/p>\n

\nInfo   CBS    Exec: Metered network detected, give up WU download attempt\nInfo   CBS    Exec: Processing complete. To fix the issue, turn off metering for your internet connection.<\/p>\n
    \n
  1. Open Settings, and click Network & Internet.<\/li>\n
  2. Access the properties of your current internet connection source — e.g., Ethernet or Wi-Fi.<\/li>\n
  3. Disable the “Metered” option.

    If the above step doesn’t resolve the problem, continue to Steps 2 & 3.<\/em><\/p>\n

    Step 2: Remove Windows Update policies<\/h3>\n
    Open an admin Command Prompt<\/a> window and run the following commands one by one:<\/p>\n
    reg.exe delete \"HKCU\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\WindowsUpdate\" \/f\nreg.exe delete \"HKCU\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\WindowsUpdate\" \/f\nreg.exe delete \"HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\WindowsUpdate\" \/f\nreg.exe delete \"HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\WindowsUpdate\" \/f\nreg.exe delete \"HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Servicing\" \/v \"RepairContentServerSource\" \/f\nreg.exe delete \"HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Servicing\" \/v \"LocalSourcePath\" \/f\nreg.exe delete \"HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Servicing\" \/v \"UseWindowsUpdate\" \/f\nnet stop wuauserv\nnet start wuauserv\n<\/pre>\n

    Step 3: Add “Wireless Display” using DISM or Optional Features<\/h3>\n
    Next, run the following commands to install the Wireless Display feature.<\/p>\n
    DISM \/Online \/Remove-Capability \/CapabilityName:App.WirelessDisplay.Connect~~~~0.0.1.0<\/pre>\n
    (If the error “Error: 87 – A Windows capability name was not recognized” appears, ignore it and proceed to the following command.)<\/em><\/p>\n
    DISM \/Online \/Add-Capability \/CapabilityName:App.WirelessDisplay.Connect~~~~0.0.1.0<\/pre>\n

    Alternatively, you can install the feature via Settings \u2192 System \u2192 Optional Features.<\/p>\n

    \nNote:<\/strong> Information in this article doesn’t fix the error code 0x800F0922 when installing the Wireless Display feature. 0x800F0922 is a generic rollback error code that can occur for several reasons.
