You may use the Services Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in (services.msc) and the Local Security Settings MMC snap-in (secpol.msc) to view the service configuration and the account configuration.<\/pre>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75078\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/wlidsvc-error-0x80070005-services-mmc.jpg\" alt=\"wlidsvc service error 0x80070005 fix\" width=\"648\" height=\"536\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75077\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/wlidsvc-error-1297.png\" alt=\"wlidsvc error 1297 and 0x80070005 fix\" width=\"399\" height=\"452\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a result, you&#8217;re unable to sign in to any Store app. The following error occurs when doing so:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Something went wrong\n\nPlease try again later.\n\n0x800706d9<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75079\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/wlidsvc-error-0x800706d9.png\" alt=\"wlidsvc store apps sign-in error 0x800706d9\" width=\"505\" height=\"710\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You may also be unable to sign in to Office 365 apps and the Microsoft Store, and Microsoft Edge may fail to sync your profile.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To fix the Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant (<code>wlidsvc<\/code>) service, follow the steps below:<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Fix the Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant service<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/wlidsvc_service_fix.zip\">wlidsvc_service_fix.reg<\/a> (zipped), unzip it, and run the enclosed .reg file.<\/li>\n<li>Click Yes to confirm.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Restart<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> Windows.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>(You can apply the above .reg file to Windows 10 and 11. Last tested in Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11 23H2.)<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Fix the Permissions for wlidsvcconfig.xml<\/h3>\n<p>Open an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/open-elevated-command-prompt-windows\/\">admin Command Prompt<\/a> and run these commands:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">cd \/d C:\\ProgramData\\Microsoft\\IdentityCRL\\production\ntakeown \/f wlidsvcconfig.xml\nicacls wlidsvcconfig.xml \/reset\nicacls wlidsvcconfig.xml \/setowner \"nt authority\\system\"\n<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75075\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/wlidsvc-error-5-fixed.png\" alt=\"wlidsvc error 0x80070005 fix\" width=\"757\" height=\"372\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above steps fix the permissions for wlidsvconfig.xml.<\/p>\n<p>Next, verify the permissions for that file and then attempt to start the service.<\/p>\n<p>Run the following command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">icacls wlidsvcconfig.xml<\/pre>\n<p>The output should look like the following:<\/p>\n<pre>wlidsvcconfig.xml NT AUTHORITY\\SYSTEM:(I)(F)\nBUILTIN\\Administrators:(I)(F)\nBUILTIN\\Users:(I)(RX)\nEveryone:(I)(RX)<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-75076\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/wlidsvc-error-5-fixed-2.png\" alt=\"wlidsvc error 0x80070005 fix\" width=\"757\" height=\"308\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Start the service by running the following command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">net start wlidsvc<\/pre>\n<p>If all goes well, you should see the message &#8220;<em>The Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant service was started successfully.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/audiosrv-service-error-0x80070005\/\">How to Fix Windows Audio Service Error 0x80070005 (AudioSrv)<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you try to start the Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant (wlidsvc) service, the following errors occur: Windows could not start the Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant service on Local Computer.
