Please close Setup and try again.\" width=\"693\" height=\"548\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>The most probable reason for the above error is the incorrect identifier set for the EFI boot partition.<\/p>\n<p>Another possibility is that the&#8221;<code>PortableOperatingSystem<\/code>&#8220;QWORD value exists in the registry.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the error, &#8220;Sorry, we&#8217;re having trouble determining if your PC can run Windows 11&#8221; when running Windows 10 or 11 Setup, follow these steps.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note:<\/strong> The instructions in this article apply to UEFI\/GPT-based hard drive partitions. For more information, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/find-if-disk-is-mbr-or-gpt\/\">How to Find if a Disk Uses MBR or GPT<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Fix the EFI partition&#8217;s ID<\/h3>\n<p>Open Disk Management (<code>diskmgmt.msc<\/code>) and see if the EFI Partition shows up as &#8220;EFI System Partition&#8221;. If it appears as &#8220;Basic Data Partition,&#8221; you must fix the partition&#8217;s ID.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_74841\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-74841\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-74841 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/efi-incorrect-id-fix-1.png\" alt=\"fix EFI partition id using diskpart's set id command.\" width=\"750\" height=\"440\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74841\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The EFI partition appears as &#8220;Basic Data Partition&#8221; due to an incorrect ID.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Also, the setupact.log and setuperr.log may record the following entries:<\/p>\n<pre>\nInfo       ConX::Compatibility::CSystemAbstraction::HostIsUEFIFirmware: Host is UEFI.\nError      ConX::Compatibility::CSystemAbstraction::HostIsUEFIDiskLayout: Failed to retrieve system partition NT path.[gle=0x00000001]\nError      CHostIsUEFICompliantChecker failed. [Failed to check whether host has UEFI disk layout.] HRESULT = 0x80070003[gle=0x00000001]\n<\/pre>\n<h4>In this case, you must fix the EFI&#8217;s GUID using diskpart. For detailed information, check out the article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/fix-efi-boot-partition-guid-set-id\/\">How to Fix the EFI Boot Partition&#8217;s ID Using DiskPart<\/a>.<\/h4>\n<p>After fixing the EFI&#8217;s identifier, the partition appears correctly in Disk Management.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-74839\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/efi-incorrect-id-fix-3.png\" alt=\"fix EFI partition id using diskpart's set id command.\" width=\"750\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Check if that fixes the &#8220;Sorry, we&#8217;re having trouble determining if your PC can run Windows 11&#8221; error during Windows 10\/11 Setup.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 2: Delete the &#8220;PortableOperatingSystem&#8221; value<\/h3>\n<p>If the PortableOperatingSystem value is present in the registry, the setup fails with one of the following errors:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"err\">Feature update to Windows 10, version 22H2 - Error 0xc0000024<\/pre>\n<pre class=\"err\">Feature update to Windows 11, version 23H2 - Error 0xc0000024<\/pre>\n<pre class=\"err\">Sorry, we're having trouble determining if your PC can run Windows 11. Please close Setup and try again.<\/pre>\n<p>The setuperr.log file may mention the error code 0xc0000024:<\/p>\n<pre>Error CONX ConX::Compatibility::CSystemAbstraction::HostIsBootedFromPortableWorkspace: Failed to determine Portable Workspace state. HRESULT = 0xc0000024[gle=0x00000001] \nError CONX CBootFromPortableWorkspaceChecker failed. [Failed to check whether host is booted from PortableWorkspace.] HRESULT = 0xc0000024[gle=0x00000001] \nError CONX ConX::Compatibility::CCompatibilityHost::SetScanResult: Compat scan from provider wsc:setup: failed.
