The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows-hardware\/manufacture\/desktop\/windows-recovery-environment--windows-re--technical-reference?view=windows-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-linktype=\"absolute-path\">Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)<\/a>\u00a0is used to repair or recover from issues affecting Windows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-size-sm\">Resulting from this error, the following message might be displayed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"font-size-sm\">\u200b&#8221;0x80070643 &#8211; ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"font-size-sm\"><strong>Affected platforms:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"font-size-sm\">\u200bClient: Windows 11, version 21H2; Windows 10, version 22H2; Windows 10, version 21H2<\/li>\n<li class=\"font-size-sm\">\u200bServer: Windows Server 2022<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>The problem occurs due to a lack of free space in the Windows RE partition. The update failed to stage the WinRE servicing operation due to insufficient disk space in the WinRE partition.<\/p>\n<p>Other causes include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Winre.wim image is outdated.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">WinRE is disabled on the computer.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>The KB5034441 update services your Winre.wim image and it required approximately 55 MB of free disk space on our test systems. If you&#8217;re using the Windows-default winre.wim, ensure that the Recovery partition is at least 750 MB. If your Recovery partition is smaller (e.g., 550 MB or something), please resize it to 750 MB.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> For OEM-supplied winre.wim (which has additional drivers and packages), ensure the Recovery partition is at least 100 MB larger than the size of the custom wim.<\/p>\n<h3>Option 1: Extend the Recovery partition using a PowerShell script<\/h3>\n<p>Microsoft has released a PowerShell script that automatically extends the Recovery partition, such that 250 MB of free space is available in that partition.<\/p>\n<p>Please follow the steps in the following article to run the script.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/extend-windows-re-partition-powershell\/\">How to Extend the Windows RE Partition Using PowerShell<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>(Credits to Microsoft for the .PS1 script.
