The Windows Update <code>KB4100347<\/code> includes microcode updates from Intel.<\/p>\n<p>Right after installing the update <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/4100347\/intel-microcode-updates-for-windows-10-version-1803-and-windows-server\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KB4100347<\/a> via Windows Update channel or the Microsoft Update Catalog, many users faced a problem where the system became unbootable, especially Xeon workstations. Although not necessary, some users wiped their drive, formatted it and installed Windows 10 from scratch to come out of this problem.<\/p>\n<p>But there is no need to clean install Windows 10. This post explains how to make your Windows 10 computer bootable again by undoing\/uninstalling\u00a0<code>KB4100347<\/code>\u00a0offline via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/system-restore-rollback-windows-10-recovery-options\/\">Windows Recovery Environment<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>[Solution] Cannot boot into Windows after installing KB4100347<\/h2>\n<p>To fix the unbootable Windows 10 computer, uninstall KB4100347 package via Windows Recovery Environment.<\/p>\n<h3>Remove KB4100347 to fix your unbootable computer<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Boot into Windows RE (press <kbd>F9<\/kbd> before Windows starts).\u00a0If Windows\u00a0<u>doesn\u2019t start<\/u>, then boot the system using the installation media or Recovery drive to access the Recovery Environment. In the Windows setup page that appears when booting using the Windows installation media, click Next and click\u00a0<b>Repair your computer<\/b>. For more information, see how to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/run-sfc-offline-windows-7-vista\/\">boot into Windows RE<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Choose Advanced Options, and click on the <strong>Command Prompt<\/strong> option.<\/li>\n<li>Next, find out now which drive-letter has been assigned for the Windows partition (when seen from WinRE). To do so, run the command <code>diskpart<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Then type <code>list disk<\/code>. Select the one which matches your Operating System drive.<\/li>\n<li>Type <code>list volumes<\/code>. It&#8217;ll throw out a list. The biggest one should be Windows. Two small ones of around <code>500MB<\/code> should be there, ignore those.<\/li>\n<li>Close diskpart by typing <code>exit<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Now type <code>dism \/image:&lt;driveletter here&gt; \/get-packages<\/code>. This should result in a list of packages. Find KB4100347. It&#8217;s name is quite long, but you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/copy-command-prompt-output-clipboard-save-file\/\">copy it by selecting it and right clicking<\/a>. It might appear like as below:\n<pre>Package_for_KB4100347~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.2.3<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Now type <code>dism \/image:&lt;driveletter here&gt; \/remove-package \/PackageName:&lt;the_long_package_name_here&gt;<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Now type <code>dism \/image:&lt;driveletter here&gt; \/cleanup-image \/revertpendingactions<\/code> as to undo the damage done.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Credits to redittor a_false_vacuum for the quick fix above.
