This is unusual because the screen is supposed to appear only when booting from the USB setup disk.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-62621\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/setup-inplace-upgrade-language-screen-1.png\" alt=\"language screen appears during inplace upgrade setup.exe\" width=\"754\" height=\"572\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You may wonder why the screen appears even though you&#8217;re running setup.exe from within Windows.<\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>Windows Setup thinks you&#8217;re booting from the USB setup disk even though you&#8217;re running it from Windows. The following registry key causes Windows to believe you&#8217;re booting from the Setup disk.<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\MiniNT<\/pre>\n<p>Please note that the &#8220;MiniNT&#8221; key and its registry values don&#8217;t exist in a standard Windows installation. Some user on your computer (or a third-party program) may have\u00a0added it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>SEE ALSO:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/fix-dism-error-50-minint-windows-pe-servicing\/\">DISM Error 87 &#8220;DISM does not support servicing Windows PE&#8221; \u00bb<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To fix the Windows Setup issue during an in-place upgrade, delete the <code>MiniNT<\/code> registry key using these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Right-click Start, and click Run.<\/li>\n<li>Type <code>regedit.exe<\/code> and click OK.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to the following registry key:\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\MiniNT<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5960\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/minint-key-delete.png\" alt=\"dism error 50 MiniNT Windows PE key\" width=\"700\" height=\"285\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Right-click <code>MiniNT<\/code>, and choose Delete<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<li>No restart is required.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Rerun setup.exe.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-52811\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/setup_stuck_updates_check_1.png\" alt=\"windows 11 setup screen\" width=\"702\" height=\"555\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It should show the &#8220;Install Windows&#8221; screen now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you run an in-place upgrade by running Setup.exe using the Windows 10 or 11 Media Creation Tool or ISO from Windows, the language selection screen pops up.
