The file type may be associated with <strong>Microsoft Edge<\/strong>, and you cannot change the default app to Code Editor, Visual Studio Code, or any other app.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>When you try to change it via Default Apps, there may be no results when you type <code><strong>.htm<\/strong><\/code>\u00a0or <code><strong>.html<\/strong><\/code> in the &#8220;Set a default for a file type or link type&#8221; text box, as shown in the image below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-62065\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/edge-html-asso-1.png\" alt=\"html files cannot associate in windows 11\" width=\"659\" height=\"321\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you right-click on an HTML file and choose properties, the &#8220;Change&#8221; button may be missing<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-62066\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/edge-html-asso-2.png\" alt=\"html files cannot associate in windows 11\" width=\"487\" height=\"275\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, the &#8220;Change&#8221; button may be present for other file types.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-62067\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/edge-html-asso-3.png\" alt=\"html files cannot associate in windows 11\" width=\"530\" height=\"262\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you try to change the file associations via the Open With menu, only the &#8220;<span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Just once&#8221; button may be visible. The only way to open the said file types with another app is by using the Open With menu, and it&#8217;s only just for that time.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the HTM\/HTML file association issue in Windows 10 or 11, apply the registry fix below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/MSEdgeHTM.zip\">MSEdgeHTM.reg<\/a> (zipped), unzip, and run the enclosed registry fix.
