The article assumes you have a valid Home Edition license.<\/p>\n<h2>Downgrade Windows 10 or 11 Pro to Home Edition<\/h2>\n<p>Downgrading Windows 10\/11 Pro to Home requires changing the edition ID in the registry and then doing a repair installation. Unzip and run the enclosed registry file.<\/p>\n<p>(INFO) Here are the contents of the registry file.<\/p>\n<pre>Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00\r\n\r\n;Downgrade Windows 10\/11 Pro to Windows 10\/11 Home Edition.\r\n;The same REG file works for both Windows 10 and 11.\r\n\r\n[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion]\r\n\"CompositionEditionID\"=\"Core\"\r\n\"EditionID\"=\"Core\"\r\n\"ProductName\"=\"Windows 10 Home\"\r\n\r\n[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion]\r\n\"CompositionEditionID\"=\"Core\"\r\n\"EditionID\"=\"Core\"\r\n\"ProductName\"=\"Windows 10 Home\"\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>(where &#8220;Core&#8221; means &#8220;Home Edition&#8221;. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/80070002-failed-determine-source-edition-type\/\">list of editions<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 2: Repair Windows 10\/11 using the ISO or MCT<\/h3>\n<p>The next step is to repair your Windows installation using the Media Creation Tool or ISO.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-10-iso-direct-download-mct-useragent\/\">Windows 10\/11 ISO<\/a> and mount it.<\/li>\n<li>Run <strong>Setup.exe<\/strong> from the mounted ISO drive letter.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-52813\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/windows_11_iso_mounted.png\" alt=\"windows 10\/11 iso setup.exe\" width=\"399\" height=\"247\" \/><em>Due to the registry changes we made, the Windows Setup will think you&#8217;re running Windows 10\/11 Home Edition. The winver.exe dialog, on the other hand, may continue to show the original edition installed. Proceed only if you can reinstall your apps and configure the settings after the downgrade.<\/p>\n<p>The dialog might mention:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Your files, apps, and settings can&#8217;t be kept because you&#8217;re installing an edition of Windows that&#8217;s different than the one you&#8217;re currently using.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-61756\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/pro-to-home-single-language-downgrade.png\" alt=\"windows 11 setup - keep files and settings grayed out\" width=\"702\" height=\"555\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above issue can occur if you use a Windows 10\/11 single-language ISO (i.e., attempting to downgrade from Pro <strong>\u2192<\/strong> Home Single Language, in that case the Setup logs the error 0XC1900205 &#8211; 0x4000B &#8211; MOSETUP_E_COMPAT_MIGCHOICE_CANCEL. The downgrade\/migration path is unsupported.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/icotip.gif\" alt=\"tip\" width=\"34\" height=\"34\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-80327\" \/>To successfully downgrade to Windows Home <strong>Single Language Edition<\/strong>, set the &#8220;EditionID&#8221; registry value to <strong>CoreSingleLanguage<\/strong> and &#8220;ProductName&#8221; to <strong>Windows 10 Home Single Language<\/strong>. After doing so, you should be able to downgrade to Home Single Language Edition, keeping the files and settings intact.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>The &#8220;Keep personal files and apps&#8221; option is auto-chosen by default if the option is available for your computer. You&#8217;ll have to use the &#8220;Change product key&#8221; option and input a valid Windows 10 Home key and activate Windows.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it.
