A<span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> few text-based files by the names &#8220;StructuredQuery&#8221;, &#8220;MSI67784&#8221;, &#8220;cv_bug,&#8221; and lastly, &#8220;chrome_installer&#8221; may open.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>If you run <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/clean-boot-windows-autoruns\/\">Autoruns<\/a> (from Microsoft Sysinternals) to inspect your startup entries, the Logon tab lists all files from the Temp folder.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-61570\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/temp-files-open-startup-1.png\" alt=\"Autoruns temporary files in the logon tab\" width=\"749\" height=\"628\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>This happens if the Startup shell folder is incorrect and is pointing to the Temporary folder. A malware infection can cause this issue.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/startup-programs-not-auto-starting-windows\/\">[Fix] Startup Programs don\u2019t auto-launch at logon<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<h3>Step 1: Fix the Startup shell folder settings<\/h3>\n<p>To resolve the issue, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch the Registry Editor by running <code><strong>regedit.exe<\/strong><\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the following location:\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\User Shell Folders<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Double-click &#8220;<strong>Startup<\/strong>&#8221; and set its data to as follows:\n<pre>%APPDATA%\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Startup<\/pre>\n<p>-or-<\/p>\n<pre>%USERPROFILE%\\AppData\\Roaming\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs\\Startup<\/pre>\n<p>(Also, ensure the registry value type is <strong>REG_EXPAND_SZ<\/strong>.)<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-61568\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/temp-files-open-startup-2.png\" alt=\"startup shell folder fix\" width=\"751\" height=\"274\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Automate the above<\/h4>\n<p>You can automate the above steps using a registry file.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/fix_startup_path.zip\">fix_startup_path.reg<\/a> (zipped).<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Unzip and run the enclosed registry file.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Click Yes to confirm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Log off and log back in for the change to take effect.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>RELATED:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-10-shell-folders-paths-defaults-restore\/\">Windows 10\/11 User Shell Folders Restore Default Paths<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Step 2: Run Malwarebytes<\/h3>\n<p>Download and run Malwarebytes and scan the computer.
