Click OK to close the application. \r\n<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/dism-error-0xc0000017.png\" alt=\"dism.exe error 0xc0000017\" width=\"395\" height=\"152\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-76664\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The error code 0xc0000017 means the following:<\/p>\n<pre>  STATUS_NO_MEMORY                                              ntstatus.h\r\n# {Not Enough Quota}\r\n# Not enough virtual memory or paging file quota is available\r\n# to complete the specified operation.\r\n# 1 matches found for \"0xc0000017\"<\/pre>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>This error happens if malware has added a Dism.exe or Sfc.exe entry in the &#8220;Image File Execution Options&#8221; registry key. The entry might look like the following:<\/p>\n<pre>\r\n[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\Image File Execution Options\\sfc.exe]\r\n\"MinimumStackCommitInBytes\"=dword:41888888\r\n<\/pre>\n<pre>\r\n[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\Image File Execution Options\\dism.exe]\r\n\"MinimumStackCommitInBytes\"=dword:41888888\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>The above registry value is usually employed by malware. As per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trendmicro.com\/en_in\/research\/23\/e\/attack-on-security-titans-earth-longzhi-returns-with-new-tricks.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TrendMicro<\/a>, the value of <code>MinimumStackCommitInBytes<\/code> associated with a specific process in the IFEO registry key will be used to define the minimum size of stack to commit in initialising the main thread. If the stack size is too large, it will trigger a stack overflow exception and terminate the current process.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rp\"><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/dism-error-2-start-servicing-process\/\">DISM Error 2 While Attempting to Start the Servicing Process<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>To resolve the DISM or SFC error <strong>0xc0000017<\/strong>, delete the abovementioned registry key(s).<\/p>\n<p>Launch Regedit.exe and go to the following branch:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\Image File Execution Options\\sfc.exe<\/pre>\n<p>Right-click on the <strong>Sfc.exe<\/strong> key and choose Delete.<\/p>\n<p>Then, go to the following branch if it exists:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\Image File Execution Options\\dism.exe<\/pre>\n<p>Right-click on the <strong>dism.exe<\/strong> key and choose Delete.<\/p>\n<p>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/p>\n<p>You should now be able to run DISM and Sfc.exe.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3>Additional note<\/h3>\n<p>On some systems, malware may have blocked additional executables using the IFEO key.
