These shell folders are not supposed to appear on the desktop by default.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-59148\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/special-folders-appear-on-desktop.png\" alt=\"music, pictures, videos, desktop, downloads, home icons appear on desktop - how to hide them\" width=\"749\" height=\"499\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Delete&#8221; will be missing for those shell folders, and pressing delete on your keyboard doesn&#8217;t help. If you can&#8217;t figure out how to remove these shell folder icons, this article is for you.<\/p>\n<h2>Remove User Shell Folders from Desktop<\/h2>\n<p>The specified folders are hidden from desktop by default in a standard Windows 11 installation. Here is a registry fix that hides the five special folders and the &#8220;Home&#8221; icon from the desktop.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/hide_shell_folders_on_desktop_windows_11.zip\">hide_shell_folders_on_desktop_windows_11.reg<\/a> (zipped)<\/li>\n<li>Unzip the archive and run the enclosed registry file. Click Yes to confirm.<\/li>\n<li>Press <strong>F5<\/strong> to refresh the desktop.
