It can also trace the entire boot process and save to a PML log file. When enabling the setting &#8220;Enable Boot Logging&#8221; from the Options menu in Process Monitor, the following error may pop up:<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/procmon-boot-logging-error.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"394\" height=\"167\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5641\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"err\">\n<p>Unable to write PROCMON23.SYS.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure that you have permission to<br \/>\nwrite to the %%SystemRoot%%\\System32\\Drivers directory.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>This error is seen especially on Windows 10 computers, and there is a simple workaround for this problem without requiring any reboot.<\/p>\n<p>Note that you&#8217;ll be unable to delete <code>PROCMON23.SYS<\/code> as it&#8217;s in use by the Operating System.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5640\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5640\" style=\"width: 439px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/prmcmon23-error.png\" alt=\"Unable to write PROCMON23.SYS\" width=\"449\" height=\"279\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5640\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5640\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PROCMON23.SYS file in use<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Solution<\/h3>\n<p>To fix the error, all you need to do is rename the file <code>PROCMON23.SYS<\/code> (to <code>PROCMON23-OLD.SYS<\/code> or something) in the <code>C:\\Windows\\System32\\Drivers<\/code> folder.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/prmcmon23-rename-uac.png\" alt=\"Unable to write PROCMON23.SYS\" width=\"482\" height=\"242\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5638\" \/><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5639\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5639\" style=\"width: 690px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/prmcmon23-rename.png\" alt=\"Unable to write PROCMON23.SYS\" width=\"700\" height=\"167\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5639\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5639\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Error &#8220;Unable to write PROCMON23.SYS&#8221; when enable boot logging in ProcMon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>You should be able to enable boot logging now.
