Then in one of the interim builds, the functionality was changed, where mouse wheel started zooming. Some users were not happy with this inconsistency.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Windows 10 Fall Creators Update: Photos app Mouse wheel settings<\/h2>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-10-fall-creators-update-available-now-via-wu\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Fall Creators Update<\/a> (v1709), the Windows 10 Photos app lets you configure what mouse wheel scroll does: scroll to the previous\/next image, or zoom in\/out the current picture.<\/p>\n<p>1. Open the Photos app, and click the ellipsis button (with three dots).<\/p>\n<p>2. Click <strong>Settings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>3. Under &#8220;Mouse wheel&#8221;, configure the mouse wheel rotation action &#8212; choose one of these options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>View next or previous item<\/li>\n<li>Zoom in or out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5604\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5604\" style=\"width: 690px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/photos-scroll-mouse-zoom-prev.png\" alt=\"Photos app settings - mouse wheel function windows 10\" width=\"700\" height=\"488\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5604\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5604\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photos app Mouse wheel functionality in Settings<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Note: <kbd>Ctrl<\/kbd> + mouse wheel always zooms in or out.<\/p>\n<h2>Older builds of Windows 10 (v1703 and earlier)<\/h2>\n<h3>Get &#8220;Scroll to prev\/next picture&#8221; functionality using AutoHotKey<\/h3>\n<p>The Photos app in Windows 10 version 1703 (Creators Update) and earlier didn&#8217;t provide the above options in the Settings page. But to get the &#8220;scroll to next\/previous photo&#8221; functionality,  you can use the AutoHotkey script written by Reddit user <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Windows10\/comments\/5fvr7n\/autohotkey_script_to_regain_scrolltonext_picture\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">u\/lblb_lblb<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>AutoHotkey is a free, open-source scripting language for Windows that allows users to easily create small to complex scripts for all kinds of tasks such as: form fillers, auto-clicking, macros, etc.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To use this script, you need to install <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autohotkey.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">AutoHotkey<\/a>. Then, copy and paste the following lines of code to Notepad, and save it with the .AHK file extension.<\/p>\n<pre>SetBatchLines, -1\r\n#SingleInstance, Force\r\n\r\n#If MouseIsOver(\"ahk_class ApplicationFrameWindow\")\r\nWheelUp::Right\r\nWheelDown::Left\r\n\r\nMouseIsOver(WinTitle) {\r\nMouseGetPos,,, Win\r\nReturn WinExist(WinTitle . \" ahk_id \" . Win)\r\n}\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>Run the saved .AHK script file by double-clicking on it.<\/p>\n<p>Launch the Photos app now.
