With Windows 10 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/windows-10-fall-creators-update-available-now-via-wu\/\">Fall Creators Update<\/a>, a new folder has been added to list of folders in This PC; it&#8217;s the <strong><code>3D Objects<\/code><\/strong> folder where the Paint 3D app saves files by default.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5572\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5572\" style=\"width: 690px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5572\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/3d-objects-folder-this-pc.png\" alt=\"&quot;3d objects&quot; folder in this pc\" width=\"700\" height=\"223\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5572\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">3D Objects folder in This PC namespace view<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We saw how to remove the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/remove-quick-access-other-shell-folders-file-explorer\/\">6 special folders<\/a> in the article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/remove-quick-access-other-shell-folders-file-explorer\/\">Remove Quick access and User Folders from File Explorer<\/a>. <strong>This article<\/strong> describes how to <strong>remove the <code>3D Objects<\/code><\/strong>\u00a0folder from This PC &#8212; both in the tree view as well as in the right pane.<\/p>\n<h2>Remove 3D Objects special folder from This PC<\/h2>\n<p>To remove the <code>3D Objects<\/code> folder icon from Computer (This PC), follow these steps:<\/p>\n<h3>Option 1:<\/h3>\n<p>This option removes the 3D Objects folder icon for your user account only. This is preferred if you want to make changes only in your profile, or if you don&#8217;t have administrator privileges.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Start the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and go to:\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Create a subkey named <code>HideMyComputerIcons<\/code><\/li>\n<li>With <code>HideMyComputerIcons<\/code> selected, create a REG_DWORD (32-bit) value named <code>{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Double-click <code>{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}<\/code> and sets its data to <code>1<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&#8230; where <code>{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}<\/code> is the unique identifier for the 3D Objects <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/shell-commands-to-access-the-special-folders\/\">shell folder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To automate the above steps, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/how-to-use-reg-files-registration-entries-windows\/\">use this REG<\/a> below:<\/p>\n<pre>Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00\r\n\r\n[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\HideMyComputerIcons]\r\n\"{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}\"=dword:00000001<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Undo information:<\/strong> To reverse the above registry modification to get the 3D Objects folder icon back, simply delete the DWORD value <code>{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}<\/code> in the above registry location. Alternately, use this REG file:<\/p>\n<pre>Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00\r\n\r\n[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\HideMyComputerIcons]\r\n\"{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}\"=-<\/pre>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Option 2:<\/h3>\n<p>This option removes the 3D Objects folder icon for every user account on the computer. This method requires administrator privileges.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/remove-3d-objects-folder.zip\">remove-3d-objects-folder.zip<\/a> and extract the contents to a folder.<\/li>\n<li>Double-click to run the file <code>remove-3d-objects-folder.reg<\/code> to remove the <code>3D Objects<\/code> special folder from This PC.<\/li>\n<li>Click Yes when prompted.\u00a0This REG fix clears the following registry key(s)\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\MyComputer\\NameSpace\\{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}\r\n\r\nHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\WOW6432Node\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\MyComputer\\NameSpace\\{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}<\/pre>\n<p>&#8230; where the GUID <code>{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}<\/code> is the unique identifier for <code>3D Objects<\/code> shell namespace object.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Note that deleting the above key(s) just hides the <code>3D Objects<\/code> folder from the This PC namespace view, but the actual folder can be accessed by typing the following path in the File Explorer address bar.<\/p>\n<pre>C:\\Users\\%username%\\3D Objects<\/pre>\n<p>That&#8217;s it! This removes the <code>3D Objects<\/code> folder from This PC. In case you change your mind and want to restore the <code>3D Objects<\/code> icon back, run the appropriate &#8220;restore&#8221; REG file for your system (32-bit vs 64-bit Windows).<\/p>\n<h2>Replace 3D Objects folder with a custom folder<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a fun tip! If you want to replace the <strong>3D Objects<\/strong> folder with a custom folder location of your choice, here&#8217;s a registry edit for you. Let&#8217;s say you want to add your custom <strong>Tools<\/strong> folder in place of <strong>3D Objects<\/strong> folder.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/how-to-use-reg-files-registration-entries-windows\/\">Create a .reg file<\/a> from the following contents:\n<pre>Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00\r\n\r\n[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Classes\\CLSID\\{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}\\DefaultIcon]\r\n@=\"d:\\\\tools\\\\tools.ico\"\r\n\r\n[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Classes\\CLSID\\{0DB7E03F-FC29-4DC6-9020-FF41B59E513A}\\Instance\\InitPropertyBag]\r\n\"TargetFolderPath\"=\"D:\\\\Tools\"\r\n\"TargetKnownFolder\"=\"\"<\/pre>\n<p>The above registry settings replace the 3D Objects folder with the Tools folder (located in <code>D:\\<\/code> drive).\n<\/li>\n<li>Download a nice looking icon for that folder, name it as <code>tools.ico<\/code>, and store it in the same folder.\n<div class=\"newline\"><em>(You can modify the target folder path in the above REG file accordingly. However, in the REG file, make sure to use double backslashes for path instead of a single backslash.)<\/em><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>After creating a .reg file, double-click the file to merge the contents with the registry.
