WinHTTP provides the HTTP client APIs, which are used by desktop applications and Windows services.<\/p>\n<p>This article tells you how to disable or reset the WinHTTP and WinINET proxy settings using Netsh.exe and Internet Options, respectively.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>How to Reset the WinHTTP Proxy settings<\/h2>\n<p>If Windows Update, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/store-error-80072efd-80072efe-80d02002-80072ee2\/\">Microsoft Store<\/a>, Xbox or other Store apps can&#8217;t access the internet, reset\/disable your proxy settings. Use the methods below:<\/p>\n<h3>1) The Netsh.exe command<\/h3>\n<p>From admin Command Prompt, run:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">netsh.exe winhttp reset proxy<\/pre>\n<p>The output should look like the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Current WinHTTP proxy settings:<\/p>\n<p>Direct access (no proxy server).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally, you may run the following command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">bitsadmin \/util \/setieproxy localsystem NO_PROXY RESET<\/pre>\n<p>The second command removes the proxy settings for transferring files using BITS. See <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/win32\/wininet\/wininet-vs-winhttp\">WinINet vs. WinHTTP &#8211; Win32 apps | Microsoft Learn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>To disable the WinINET proxy in Internet Explorer (changes will be effected in many other apps), do the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Right-click Start, and click Run.<\/li>\n<li>Type <strong>inetcpl.cpl<\/strong> and click OK.<\/li>\n<li>Select the &#8220;Connections&#8221; tab.<\/li>\n<li>Click on LAN Settings.<\/li>\n<li>Check &#8220;Automatically detect settings&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Uncheck the &#8220;Use a proxy server for your LAN.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/inetcpl-proxy-server.png\" alt=\"internet options - connnections tab - proxy server\" width=\"461\" height=\"572\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-55488\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Click OK, and click OK to close the dialog boxes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> You can also configure the above by opening <strong>Settings > Network &#038; Internet > Proxy<\/strong> on Windows 10 and 11.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3>3) Registry Editor<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open Regedit.exe<\/li>\n<li>Go to the following key:\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Internet Settings<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>Double-click &#8220;ProxyEnable&#8221; and set its data to <strong>0<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<li>Restart Windows.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Other than the above, you should be able to enable or disable proxy server settings in the respective app &#8212; e.g., Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes, you may have to reset the WinHTTP proxy, firewall or network settings to fix connectivity issues when using Windows Update, Microsoft Store, or other apps.
