Alternately, you can search for that program from Start menu, select the item, press <kbd>Ctrl<\/kbd> + <kbd>Shift<\/kbd> and press ENTER.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5412\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/run-elevated-3.png\" alt=\"start menu elevate program ctrl shift\" width=\"392\" height=\"188\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Task Manager has an option which allows you to start a program as administrator via the File menu. The option <strong>Create this task with administrative privileges<\/strong> lets you run programs elevated. Such an option is missing for the Run dialog in Windows.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5411\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/run-elevated-4.png\" alt=\"task manager elevate program new task\" width=\"473\" height=\"302\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All these years, the Run dialog didn&#8217;t have the capability to launch programs as administrator, and you had to use tools like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/nircmd-elevate-switch-useful-uses\/\">NirCmd<\/a> to do it. This feature has been requested by many users since Windows Vista.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At last<\/strong>, Microsoft added the feature in Windows 10 build 16362 and higher, where you can use the <kbd>Ctrl<\/kbd> + <kbd>Shift<\/kbd> + <kbd>Enter <\/kbd>shortcut in the Run dialog (<kbd>Winkey<\/kbd>\u00a0+ <kbd>R<\/kbd>) to start a program as administrator.<\/p>\n<h2>Start Programs Elevated via Run Dialog using Ctrl &amp; Shift keys<\/h2>\n<p>To start apps as elevated from the Run dialog:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Press <kbd>Winkey<\/kbd> + <kbd>R<\/kbd> to launch the Run dialog.<\/li>\n<li>Type the program name &#8212; e.g., <code>notepad.exe<\/code><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5414\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/run-elevated-1.png\" alt=\"run dialog elevate program ctrl shift\" width=\"399\" height=\"206\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Hold the <kbd>Ctrl<\/kbd> &amp; <kbd>Shift<\/kbd> keys together, and press <kbd>ENTER<\/kbd><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5413\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/run-elevated-2.png\" alt=\"run dialog elevate program ctrl shift\" width=\"456\" height=\"316\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Notepad will now start elevated (administrator).
