Press <kbd>Winkey<\/kbd> + <kbd>R<\/kbd> to bring up the Run dialog. Type <code>WSReset.exe<\/code> and press <kbd>ENTER<\/kbd>. This program resets Windows Store without changing account settings or deleting installed apps.<\/p>\n<p>When Windows Store reopens, install an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/install-uninstall-edge-extensions-powershell\/\">Edge extension<\/a> or App, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/stop-windows-store-apps-updating-automatically-windows-10\/\">update existing ones<\/a> to test if everything is working correctly.<\/p>\n<p><p>Should the installation stall at the &#8220;Waiting&#8221; screen or throw an error like 0x80244007 or similar, you may need to delete a registry key to fix the Windows Store.<\/p>\n<h2>Reset Store Apps entries in the registry<\/h2>\n<p>1. Find the Security Identifier (SID) of your user account using one of the following commands, which need to be run from a Command Prompt window.<\/p>\n<h4>Option 1: Find your SID using &#8220;Whoami&#8221; command<\/h4>\n<pre>whoami \/user<\/pre>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4946\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4946\" style=\"width: 670px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/whoami-useraccount-sid.png\" alt=\"cannot install windows store apps\" width=\"680\" height=\"180\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4946\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4946\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Finding your SID using &#8220;whoami \/user&#8221; command<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4>Option 2: Find your SID using WMIC command<\/h4>\n<pre>wmic useraccount get name, sid<\/pre>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4947\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4947\" style=\"width: 670px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/wmic-useraccount-sid.png\" alt=\"cannot install windows store apps\" width=\"680\" height=\"200\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4947\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4947\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Finding your SID using WMIC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Make a note of the SID by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/copy-command-prompt-output-clipboard-save-file\/\">copying to Notepad or to the clipboard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2. Start the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and go to the following location:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Appx\\AppxAllUserStore<\/pre>\n<p>3. Select subkey that matches your SID, under the AppxAllUserStore key. The SID in this example is <code>S-1-5-21-1792754669-1944030512-1073076190-1003<\/code><\/p>\n<p>4. Right-click the SID subkey, choose Export and save the branch to a REG file.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/store-app-reset-registry.png\" alt=\"reset windows store app registry\" width=\"680\" height=\"343\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4948\" \/><\/p>\n<p>5. Delete the key by right-clicking on it and clicking Delete.<\/p>\n<p>6. Exit the Registry Editor.<\/p>\n<p>Restart Windows and see if you can install or update Apps or Edge extensions from the Windows Store.<\/p>\n<h2>Run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter<\/h2>\n<p>If the above procedure do not help, open Control Panel, select Troubleshooting and click &#8220;View all&#8221; in the tasks pane. Run the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/fix-store-app-issues-using-troubleshooter-windows-10\/\">Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter<\/a> and restart Windows.
