If you want it to open to the Startup tab directly, this article tells you how to do it.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Windows 10 v1903 Task Manager update<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-9340 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/task-manager-default-tab.png\" alt=\"task manager default tab\" width=\"300\" height=\"237\" \/>In version 1903 and higher, you can set a default tab in Windows 10 Task Manager.<\/p>\n<p>To set the default tab in Task Manager:<br \/>\nOpen Task Manager &rarr; Options tab &rarr; <strong>Set default tab<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Select one of the following options available:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Processes<\/li>\n<li>Performance<\/li>\n<li>App history<\/li>\n<li>Startup<\/li>\n<li>Users<\/li>\n<li>Details<\/li>\n<li>Services<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>By default, it opens to the <strong>Processes<\/strong>\u00a0tab. If you select a tab in one of the above choices, the setting is retained. When you open Task Manager the next time, it will open to selected tab automatically.<\/p>\n<h3>Earlier versions of Windows<\/h3>\n<p>In earlier versions of Windows and Windows 10 versions older than v1903, you can create a shortcut to open to the Startup tab directly.<\/p>\n<p>Create a desktop shortcut with the following command-line:<\/p>\n<pre>%windir%\\system32\\Taskmgr.exe \/7 \/startup<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4729\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/taskmgr-startup-2.png\" alt=\"open taskmgr startup tab\" width=\"699\" height=\"272\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 1st parameter can be any number, not necessarily 7. But, &#8220;<strong>\/7<\/strong>&#8221; is what is used by Msconfig.exe to launch Task Manager. No other options or parameters other than <strong>\/startup<\/strong> are supported.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4730\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/taskmgr-startup-1.png\" alt=\"open taskmgr startup tab\" width=\"571\" height=\"157\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Reset Task Manager settings to default<\/h3>\n<p>To reset the Task Manager preferences to Windows default, use these steps:<\/p>\n<p>Start the Registry Editor and go to the following branch:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\TaskManager<\/pre>\n<p>Right-click the <strong>Preferences<\/strong> value and choose <strong>Delete<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>StartUpTab<\/strong> value represents the default tab you have chosen via Task Manager&#8217;s <strong>Options<\/strong> menu. Here are the possible values and their meaning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><code>0<\/code> &#8211; Processes tab<\/li>\n<li><code>1<\/code> &#8211; Performance tab<\/li>\n<li><code>2<\/code> &#8211; App history tab<\/li>\n<li><code>3<\/code> &#8211; Startup tab<\/li>\n<li><code>4<\/code> &#8211; Users tab<\/li>\n<li><code>5<\/code> &#8211; Details tab<\/li>\n<li><code>6<\/code> &#8211; Services tab<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the <strong>StartUpTab<\/strong> value is deleted, Task Manager defaults to the Processes tab.<\/p>\n<div class=\"qt\">\nTo reset the Task Manager settings to default via command-line, run this command:<\/p>\n<pre>reg delete HKCU\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\TaskManager \/v \"Preferences\" \/f<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<p>Task Manager will now start in tiny window mode.
