On some systems, the user profile folder may not appear when you open the &#8220;C:\\Users&#8221; folder in File Explorer.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>However, typing the command <strong>echo %userprofile%<\/strong> will tell that the profile folder is located at &#8220;<code>C:\\Users\\{username}<\/code>&#8220;. You may wonder why the folder doesn&#8217;t appear in Explorer.<\/p>\n<p>This post tells you how to make it visible.<\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>The user profile folder may have the System or Hidden attributes or both. Clearing those attributes should resolve the issue. To check the attributes for the folder, run the <code>attrib %userprofile%<\/code> command from a Command Prompt window.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46155\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/user-profile-folder-hidden-missing.png\" alt=\"profile folder missing under c:\\users\" width=\"499\" height=\"218\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>The first command in the above screenshot is to check the attributes for the profile folder. It showed <strong>SH<\/strong>, which means &#8220;System&#8221; and &#8220;Hidden&#8221; attributes are enabled. The second command clears those attributes. Re-running the 1st command shows that the SH attributes are successfully removed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, ensure there is no desktop.ini in the %userprofile% folder. The desktop.ini folder is usually hidden.<\/p>\n<h2>Resolution<\/h2>\n<p>Open a Command Prompt window.<\/p>\n<p>Type the following commands and press Enter after each command:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">attrib -s -h \"%userprofile%\"<\/pre>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">del \"%userprofile%\\desktop.ini\" \/a<\/pre>\n<pre class=\"cmd\">exit<\/pre>\n<p>That&#8217;s it.
