The profile folder for each user account on your computer is stored under C:\\Users<\/code>. On some systems, the user profile folder may not appear when you open the “C:\\Users” folder in File Explorer.<\/p>\n

However, typing the command echo %userprofile%<\/strong> will tell that the profile folder is located at “C:\\Users\\{username}<\/code>“. You may wonder why the folder doesn’t appear in Explorer.<\/p>\n

This post tells you how to make it visible.<\/p>\n

Cause<\/h2>\n

The user profile folder may have the System or Hidden attributes or both. Clearing those attributes should resolve the issue. To check the attributes for the folder, run the attrib %userprofile%<\/code> command from a Command Prompt window.<\/p>\n

The first command in the above screenshot is to check the attributes for the profile folder. It showed SH<\/strong>, which means “System” and “Hidden” attributes are enabled. The second command clears those attributes. Re-running the 1st command shows that the SH attributes are successfully removed.<\/em><\/p>\n

Additionally, ensure there is no desktop.ini in the %userprofile% folder. The desktop.ini folder is usually hidden.<\/p>\n

Resolution<\/h2>\n

Open a Command Prompt window.<\/p>\n

Type the following commands and press Enter after each command:<\/p>\n

attrib -s -h \"%userprofile%\"<\/pre>\n
del \"%userprofile%\\desktop.ini\" \/a<\/pre>\n
exit<\/pre>\n
