{"id":4464,"date":"2016-10-29T18:33:50","date_gmt":"2016-10-29T13:03:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/198.58.113.91\/blog\/?p=4464"},"modified":"2019-05-12T02:53:32","modified_gmt":"2019-05-12T02:53:32","slug":"make-action-center-always-remain-open-screen-windows-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/make-action-center-always-remain-open-screen-windows-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Make Action Center Always Remain Open on the Screen in Windows 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Windows 10 Action Center displays app &amp; system notifications and provides <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/instantanswers\/e70a3776-7a55-45c7-80d2-561880563748\/change-notification-settings-in-action-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">quick actions buttons<\/a> so that users can get to the commonly used settings pages easily.<\/p>\n<p>By default, the Windows 10 Action Center panel closes automatically once it loses the active window focus &#8212; when the user clicks a program window or anywhere else. Here is a registry hack which makes the Action Center panel always remain on the screen until you close it manually.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>When working with Process Monitor, I came across a registry value named &#8220;DisableLightDismiss&#8221; which when set to 1, causes the Action Center to remain on the screen after you launch it once.<\/p>\n<p><em>If you&#8217;re wondering about the worthiness of this registry edit, you should note that there are folks who like to have the <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/superuser.com\/questions\/1065032\/pin-the-windows-10-action-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Action Center panel to be pinned<\/em><\/a><em> on the right-side of the screen always. I&#8217;ve seen a couple of such requests by users, and hence this post.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Make Action Center Always Remain Open<\/h2>\n<p>Start Regedit.exe and go to:<\/p>\n<pre>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\ImmersiveShell\\Launcher<\/pre>\n<p>Create a DWORD value named <strong>DisableLightDismiss<\/strong>, and set its value data to 1<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winhelponline.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/action-center-always-remain-1.png\" alt=\"make action center always remain open\" width=\"539\" height=\"142\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4466\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Exit the Registry Editor.<\/p>\n<p>Now, open the Action Center panel by pressing WinKey + A, or by clicking its Notification area icon. Click the Start button, or anywhere outside the Action Center. You&#8217;ll see that the Action Center panel will remain open on the screen even if it loses window focus.<\/p>\n<p>It remains on the screen as a floating panel, rather than being docked or pinned; which means some part of your program windows will remain hidden behind the Action Center panel. That&#8217;s a major inconvenience.<\/p>\n<p>To close the Action Center, do one of these things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click the Action Center panel, and press {ESC}<\/li>\n<li>Press WinKey + A<\/li>\n<li>Click on the Action Center icon in the Notification area which acts as a toggle switch.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This registry edit works in Windows 10 v1607 (Anniversary Update), but I haven&#8217;t had a chance to test it in v1511.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Windows 10 Action Center displays app &amp; system notifications and provides quick actions buttons so that users can get to the commonly used settings pages easily.
